As an Environmental Health and Safety Intern, you’ll take on a mission that matters; Helping rebuild and modernize our Job Safety Analysis (JSA) system. Your work will directly contribute to a safer, healthier, and more productive workplace. Requirements

  • Currently pursuing a degree in Environmental Health and Safety or related major
  • Basic understanding of hazard recognition and problem-solving to develop proper corrective actions
  • Efficient written and verbal communication skills to present information to management
  • Ability to read, learn, and apply safety policies and programs, OSHA standards, and internal operating procedures
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to produce accurate, complete documentation
  • Analytical mindset, able to spot gaps and propose practical solutions
  • Maintain confidentiality with sensitive information
  • Proficient with Google Suite Applications, specifically Docs, Sheets and Slides
  • Able to work in-office Monday-Friday in Lexington, KY (relocation and housing is not included)

Responsibilities

  • Complete an updated JSA inventory by department, station/task, and risk level using the Master Document Index (MDI).
  • Review existing JSAs to determine accuracy, completeness, and alignment with current operations.
  • Conduct field observations within operations and engineering to validate tasks and identify hazards.
  • Replace inefficient JSA software by creating simplified, user-friendly internal templates that ensure standardization and clear workflow steps.
  • Identify and complete JSAs for all tasks not yet covered by existing analyses.
  • Work with project stakeholders to verify controls and safe work practices before JSAs are finalized.
  • Gather input from team leaders, supervisors, and frontline employees to ensure JSAs reflect real work conditions.
  • Coordinate with management to confirm critical tasks and prioritization for JSAs.
  • Create training materials that teach leaders and supervisors how to review, update, and use JSAs.
  • Create a framework for an annual JSA review process that is simple and easy to maintain.
