The Summer Intern will report directly to the Head of Environmental Health & Safety,and will be responsible for assisting with implementing the requirements of the Company’s EHS program at our Corporate / R&D headquarters in Watertown, MA and our Manufacturing site in Northbridge, MA. This position will support both of our facilities located in Massachusetts and will begin on Monday, June 1st and end on Friday, August 7th.

Requirements

  • General understanding of applied math and science
  • Working knowledge of regulations and how to navigate available databases to review such material
  • Working knowledge and use of Microsoft applications (email, xls, powerpoint)
  • Must be a student in a Bachelor’s degree program at an accredited college/university
  • Undergraduate student with a minimum of Rising Senior status.

Nice To Haves

  • Course work in chemical / biological / occupational safety and/or health a plus!!
  • Willingness and interest in understanding local, state, and federal regulations such as those of the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA), Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), Massachusetts Department of Public Health (DPH), and Massachusetts Department of Environmental Protection (MassDEP)
  • Preferred Field(s) of Study: Occupational Safety & Health Environmental Health/Science Biology / Chemistry Chemical Engineering

Responsibilities

  • Understand the day-to-day tasks and challenges of delivering an EHS program for a complex biotech / pharmaceutical company
  • Research occupational safety and health regulatory requirements and assist in implementing requirements in a real world setting
  • Develop a working knowledge of local, state, and federal regulatory requirements applicable to environment, health, and safety and how to apply within the biotech / pharmaceutical industry.
  • Learn and navigate within applications used in the EHS profession and work to update information to align with field conditions. Examples include EHS incident reporting and hazard communication program for Safety Data Sheet (SDS) Management.
  • Develop educational resources and facilitate training for colleagues on topics related to environmental health and safety compliance.
  • Consolidate and visual communicate metrics related to EHS performance.
  • Be able to operate a personal vehicle and navigate between two facilities that are approximately 1 hour apart.
  • Utilize Personal Protective Equipment needed to access manufacturing and laboratory environments, i.e. safety glasses, disposable gloves, cleanroom gowning, lab coat
