About The Position

The EHS Specialist is responsible for the development, implementation, evaluation and maintenance of company safety and environmental programs, policies, and processes in an effort to achieve a workplace free of work-related injuries and to ensure compliance with all applicable regulations and/or company standards. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned. Own the development and administration of a comprehensive EHS program to ensure compliance with all federal and state laws and regulations for employee occupational health and safety. Oversee administration of the workers' compensation program. Lead and assist in setting annual strategies of the internal Safety Leadership Management Council including chairing meetings, setting the agenda, and ownership of agenda item status. Develop, recommend, and implement injury and illness prevention program policies, procedures, and initiatives to comply with regulatory requirements and to reduce incidents for all US locations. Participate in the development and delivery of required safety and environmental training and evaluate the ongoing effectiveness. Ensure the LMS is up to date and current to OSHA, the Emergency Operation Guidelines and other applicable legal training requirements. Perform periodic inspections of company facilities and operations to identify safety and environmental hazards. Issue required notices of such hazards and required abatements and promptly provide solutions that mitigate future risks. Perform root cause analysis in order to investigate all incidents and identify solutions to reduce the probability of reoccurrence. Develop and document incidents and formalized action plans where appropriate. Ensure all EHS regulatory compliance audits are conducted as required. Stay abreast of ergonomic advancements and appropriately review company practices for implementation or upgrades in facilities and site-specific activities. Recommend and purchase various Personal Protective equipment according to specifications/regulations. Manage internal PPE programs (Safety Shoe and Safety Glasses) and partnering vendors. Manages hazardous communications program (SDS soft network), keeping documents up to date and work with departmental leadership to ensure proper training is conducted for the required populations. Maintain various files and databases both internal and external (ISNetworld, Avetta, etc.) to ensure whole program compliance. Participation in local/regional safety council as active Board Member. Manage the Environmental Management System -ISO14001 and regulatory requirements as required by federal and state EPA programs. Coordination of facilities disposal & recycle programs. Interface with federal and state regulatory agencies for inspections, audits and compliance issues. Travel may be up to 10% annually. Must have valid driver’s license.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in environmental science or industrial management required
  • Minimum of five (5) years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Experience in a safety/security/environmental position with specific experience in working with OSHA compliance and building security.
  • Must have excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Computer experience in Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint required.
  • Ability to work independently and within a team environment.
  • Working knowledge of EAP, OSHA and other state/federal program requirements.
  • Must have valid driver’s license.
