About The Position

Hood Lumber, a division of Hood Industries, Inc., is seeking an Environmental, Health, and Safety (EHS) Specialist to join our team in Waynesboro, MS. This is an excellent time to join our organization as we construct a new, state-of-the-art sawmill in reinforcing our commitment to safety, operational excellence, and long-term growth. Hood Industries, Inc. is a blend of wood manufacturing and distribution concerns that include plywood and lumber manufacturing plants, and twenty-three specialty wood product distribution operations, located in fifteen states serving the northeast, southeast and southwest United States. The Environmental, Health, and Safety (EHS) Specialist plays a key role in promoting occupational health and safety awareness and supporting all safety and environmental programs for approximately 200 employees. Responsibilities include conducting assessments, delivering training, coaching employees, performing inspections, and ensuring regulatory compliance with OSHA and other agencies. This role also assists in leading incident investigations, identifying root causes, and developing corrective action plans while reinforcing the company’s commitment to safe, responsible operations and compliance with established policies and regulations.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in safety or related field preferred.
  • 2 to 5 years of experience in a manufacturing or industrial environment.
  • Strong communication and training skills.
  • Working knowledge of OSHA regulations required.
  • Must possess strong computer skills with proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).

Nice To Haves

  • Environmental regulatory experience (air, storm water, spill prevention, etc.) is a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Coordinate and support the mill’s the safety, health, and environmental program under the direction of the EHS Manager.
  • Coordinate and conduct inspections and tours to identify safety, fire, and health hazards and recommend corrective action.
  • Maintain and assist in updating procedures to ensure OSHA compliance.
  • Lead safety orientation and employee training programs, including incident prevention, fire prevention and protection, and other safety related programs.
  • Assist in coordinating and coaching the safety committee of the mill.
  • Lead and assist with investigations involving injuries, illnesses, near misses, and property damage.
  • Track corrective actions and conduct follow-ups to ensure completion.
  • Conduct contractor safety orientations.
  • Maintain safety and environmental record and documentation.
  • Assist with managing work-related injuries and illnesses.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
