For more information, visit www.worldbank.org. The WBG E&S Policy and Operations Global Unit (ESPOM) plays a pivotal role in achieving the World Bank Group’s (WBG) mission. ESPOM supports the preparation and implementation of operations across the WBG in accordance with environmental and social (E&S) policies, and helps identify, address, and escalate potential E&S issues. ESPOM also coordinates, supports, and advises on: i) E&S policy development/updates, interpretation, and application; ii) E&S knowledge curation and dissemination; iii) Global E&S thematic and sectoral support; iv) Needs-based E&S support to Regions; and v) Accountability issues, supporting Regions on Inspection Panel (IPN) and Office of the Compliance Advisor/Ombudsman (CAO) cases, and grievance management. The unit also promotes strengthening of country and corporate E&S management systems, builds and strengthens strategic partnerships with MFIs, CSOs, and other stakeholders on E&S issues, and manages and enhances E&S Policy and Operations talent across the WBG. ESPOM’s staff are organized into three units: Policy & Knowledge (ESPOK), Global Expertise to Support Regions (ESPOS), and Accountability and Grievance Redress (ESPAG). This position will be mapped to ESPOS, which supports Regions and Sectors on complex E&S issues and operations, facilitates Regions’ interface with the E&S Policy & Operations Global Unit; and supports Regions on risk management. As part of the multi-disciplinary team of E&S specialists, the Environmental and Social Analyst, Quality Assurance (QA) will report to the QA Lead of ESPOS. The Analyst will provide system and quality analytical support, as part of the QA tam, to ESPOM and to the Regional teams. The Analyst’s responsibilities may include, among other matters: • Reporting: o Contribute generating monthly E&S KPI reports and periodic ESAP reports. o Monitoring of appraisal and supervision records and their completeness. Providing QA lead with list of overdue records for action. o Perform spot checks on the AMR/AEPR overdue reviews. o Support the preparation of quarterly PRR (Portfolio Risk and Report) report to CODE and other QA/KPI/data analytics reports as required by ESPOM Management and Regional Management. o Updating the E&S KPIs in Operational Risk Management system (ORMS) on a quarterly basis. o Assist E&S managers and specialists with requests such as the PSs triggered data, updating ESRRs and ESAP actions, under the supervision of the QA Lead. • Systems support and user guidance: o Supporting the QA Lead and the ESPOK system team for training on systems such as ESG360, iPortal, disclosure portal and E&S tools, and troubleshooting E&S systems to support E&S specialists. o Work with IT in system maintenance and enhancement tasks, reviewing the requirements/user stories, performing user-acceptance testing, sharing feedback and supporting for system functoning. o Participate in ESG360 production support calls to support on the system issues reported by specialist are addressed in a timely manner. o Work with iDesk/iPortal teams in testing system enhancements and integrations requested by ESPOM and the Regions. o Work closely with Disclosure IT and communications teams to resolve any production issues raised with respect to disclosure of E&S Review Summaries, E&S Action Plans etc. o Support the QA Lead in delivering ongoing training on Disclosure process for Direct Investments and Financial Intermediaries. o Provide ongoing system walkthrough and support to E&S specialists across regions, providing assistance for submission of appraisals/supervisions/action plans/disclosures in ESG360. o Support the QA Lead in addressing any issues reported by Regions in Supervision Visit Planner application and SVP-ESG360 data flow integrations. • Quality analysis: o Analyzing supervision waiver requests, providing support to regional teams to process and document the waivers. o Working with WBG E&S Risk analysts and IT teams to monitor and report on High Risk Projects record quality in ESG360 and iDesk, identifying data discrepancies, assisting the team leads in addressing them. o Co-ordinating with IT in maintaining and updating the E&S team in iDesk/iPortal.

Requirements

  • Degree in environmental sciences, social sciences, engineering, or other relevant discipline
  • At least five years of full-time relevant experience
  • At least three years of full-time relevant sector experience in World Bank Group operations with a sustained record of achieving high quality analyses and consistent support. Experience with WBG KPI and E&S analytic tools is an advantage
  • Experience with IT project delivery
  • Experience with WBG IT Governance procedure
  • Proven ability to conceptualize, design and implement data analytical projects and to produce reports
  • Good knowledge of the World Bank Group’s data treatment and protection policies and standards. Familiarity with WBG E&S review procedures requirement is an asset
  • Demonstrated maturity and sound judgment, and attention to detail
  • Strong analytical skills, ability to analyze and summarize diverse sources and draw conclusions from available data
  • Proven capacity to work with a wide range of internal stakeholders and interact effectively with Management
  • Ability to communicate effectively and concisely in spoken and written form, in a manner that can be understood by non-experts.
  • High personal integrity and emotional intelligence, with the ability to handle sensitive matters in a discreet and respectful manner, respond diplomatically and remain calm under pressure and develop solutions in potentially tense or conflicting situations
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English
  • Full proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite
  • Willingness to travel as required
  • Excellent workflow management and task organization skills; able to coordinate all aspects of the workflow of assigned responsibilities; ability to manage multiple tasks under tight deadlines.
  • Demonstrated ability to adapt to changing circumstances, organize and prioritize deliverables, and maintain attention to detail.
  • Ability to work effectively as a member of a multi-disciplinary, multi-cultural team.
