About The Position

ICF is looking for an Environmental Policy Analyst . ICF’s Regulatory, Policy and Economics business portfolio supports primarily public-sector clients with research, analysis, technical assistance, and implementation support to help them address complex policy, management, and regulatory challenges. We estimate the environmental, safety, and social impacts of regulations, policies, and programs and assess their costs, benefits, and economic impacts. We also evaluate program effectiveness. We work with virtually all federal agencies and with state and local agencies and select non-profit and private-sector clients. Our key clients include the Environmental Protection Agency, Department of Agriculture, and Department of Transportation. This position can be fully remote with a preference for a hybrid work arrangement from one of ICF’s office locations throughout the continental United States.

Requirements

  • Master’s degree in physical or environmental science, environmental engineering, or a related discipline with 1+ years of professional work experience including quantitative research skills.
  • This experience can include academic training or coursework in water resources, systems modeling, geographical information systems and/or remote sensing, and programming/scripting.
  • As this is a client-facing role, excellent professional written and oral communications skills are essential.
  • Proficiency in MS Office applications, particularly Excel.

Nice To Haves

  • 6 + months experience with or prior research with geospatial analysis and cartography
  • 6 + months experience with or prior research using analysis software and scripting language (e.g., R, Python) to analyze environmental data.
  • Prior consulting experience is highly desirable.
  • Knowledge of environmental and natural resource regulation and policy issues, particularly regarding programs under the Clean Water Act, Safe Drinking Water Act, and other federal laws is also a plus.
  • Strong analytical skills and a demonstrated ability to work independently and to apply a variety of technical skills and innovative thinking to solve problems
  • Ability to prioritize and work on multiple projects concurrently under strict deadlines in a fast-paced environment

Responsibilities

  • Characterizing the ecological and human health effects of pollutants and environmental stressors
  • Reviewing and synthesizing scientific literature
  • Compiling and analyzing industrial releases and environmental data
  • Researching industry responses to changing regulatory requirements, developing and applying hydrological and fate and transport models and other methods to quantify impacts
  • Providing other general program support
