This position provides leadership for the EHS program through the planning, development, coordination and direction of the environmental, health & safety programs required to achieve company goals and various requirements of customers, regulatory agencies and other entities in a manner that reflects the company’s vision of working as “One Professional Team.” The role assures compliance with OSHA, MSHA, and DOT laws and regulations and will administer the company fitness for duty program.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering, Natural Science, or related field or equivalent combination of education and experience
  • 5+ years’ experience in a position requiring and in-depth knowledge of OSHA, MSHA, DOT, and EPA regulations and administering policies to ensure compliance with those laws
  • 3+ years administrative/clerical experience
  • 3+ years customer service experience
  • 5+ years supervisory experience
  • 1+ years sales experience
  • 3+ years technical or mechanical experience
  • Standing, walking, talking, sitting, use of hands & hearing
  • Sedentary work that primarily involves sitting/standing but may require occasionally lifting and/or moving up to 25 pounds
  • Data Entry, telephone, reading/writing, reasoning, organizational, communication & math skills
  • Safety & Product Knowledge
  • Advanced communication skills for working with all levels of employees and customers, teaching, and writing reports and policies
  • Must have detailed knowledge of accident prevention, public safety, accident investigation, motor vehicle accident prevention, fire prevention, workers’ compensation, and security
  • Requires above average interviewing skills
  • Above average employee relations and interpersonal skills needed
  • Keen analytical skills
  • Basic knowledge of Microsoft Outlook
  • Intermediate knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint

  • Training certificates from National Safety Council or similar certifications a plus

Responsibilities

  • Studies, develops, and implements and monitors programs, policies and procedures
  • Prior demonstrated EHS operational excellence, including leading/participating in major change initiatives, and in-depth knowledge of culture change initiatives
  • Represents Company at city, county, state, and industry meetings, committees, and conferences
  • Provides data to customers as a part of bid packages and pre-qualifications
  • Becomes directly involved in confidential and sensitive issues
  • Collaborates and counsels company management on EHS related policies, laws and best practices
  • Performs personnel sampling (sound levels, hazardous material exposure, etc.) and implements corrective action as necessary
  • Lead activities and efforts around EHS related incidents and investigations
  • Participates in the Root Cause Analysis in collaboration with the department manager during EHS incident investigations and monitors related action plans and close out of all actions
  • Participate and provide input on EHS related initiatives
  • Contribute to achieving EHS targets in support of business objectives
  • Develop and deliver EHS related training as needed
  • Participates with industry groups to represent company’s interests and to keep up-to-date with industry trends and developments
  • Formulates, develops, and directs all facets of company accident-prevention program
  • Formulates, develops, and directs all facets of hazardous materials management program
  • Conducts or assures facility inspections to help identify EHS related hazards
  • Monitors changes in governmental regulations and advises management on potential impacts to the business
  • Performs environmental samplings of waste streams and potentially hazardous materials
  • Supports cross-departmental initiatives not central to EHS activities
  • Other duties as assigned by manager
  • Oversees the day-to-day activities of assigned personnel
