About The Position

The Mechanic is responsible for assisting mechanics in maintaining any and all mechanical equipment, including mechanical equipment onboard tugboats, barges, and other marine equipment.

Requirements

At Least 18 Years of Age.
Valid Driver's License.
Reliable Transportation to and from Work.
High School Diploma (or its equivalent).
Valid Transportation Worker Identification Credential (TWIC).
Basic Computer Skills.
At least one year experience as a mechanic helper, an electrician helper, a plumber helper, or similar work experience.
Must have your own tools necessary to perform the essential job duties.
Acceptable Driving Record.

Responsibilities

Assist in troubleshooting, diagnosing, and repairing engines, gears, pumps, and air and hydraulic systems, including deep well pump units, PTOs, marine engines of all kinds (Detroit, Cummins, John Deere, Caterpillar, Kubota, etc.).
Assist in inspection, testing, and listening to defective equipment to diagnose malfunctions, using test instruments such as handheld computers, motor analyzers, chassis charts, and pressure gauges.
Examine and adjust protective guards, loose bolts, and specified safety devices.
Identify and determine parts required for repair of disassembled units.
Reconditioning equipment.
Maintain a clean, tidy, and safe work area.
Work in confined spaces.
Drive company vehicles to remote worksites.
Other duties that may be requested by Director, Supervisor or Executive Management as needed.
