About The Position

The Appellate Paralegal will play an integral role helping to support the firm’s thriving national appellate practice in the Supreme Court, every federal court of appeals, and state appellate courts. Morrison & Foerster’s Supreme Court & Appellate Practice group handles appeals in every area of law—from intellectual property to class actions, arbitration to antitrust, environmental law to ERISA. The Paralegal will also have the opportunity to assist on a variety of pro bono matters.

Requirements

• Bachelor's Degree with a minimum 3.5 GPA required.
• Ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced environment and meet deadlines under direct supervision.
• Strong sense of accountability and taking ownership over projects.
• High level of accuracy and attention to detail in preparing work product.
• Ability to work concurrently on a variety of projects; flexibility in shifting focus.
• Excellent critical thinking, writing, and communication skills.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office programs (Word, Outlook, Excel, and PowerPoint) and Adobe Acrobat.
• Flexibility to work overtime as needed to meet business and client needs required.

Responsibilities

• Cite-checking and filing briefs and appendices before the Supreme Court and various federal and state appellate courts.
• Assisting with drafting and filing of procedural motions and other legal documents.
• Conducting factual research related to ongoing appeals.
• Maintaining reference library for administrative information and court rules.
• Developing and maintaining information regarding open appeals and documents pertaining to same.
• Preparing and reviewing business development materials as needed.
