KBR has an immediate need for an energetic and dynamic Enterprise Infrastructure Systems Administrator in support of the United States Geological Survey (USGS) Earth Resources Observation & Science (EROS) Center (http://eros.usgs.gov/) near Sioux Falls, SD (http://www.siouxfalls.org). The EROS Information Technology Services Division (ITSD) is seeking an Enterprise Infrastructure Systems Administrator to join a diverse and highly skilled team. This role leads technical operations across both Windows and Unix/Linux environments (with a primary focus on Linux). The ideal candidate will demonstrate leadership, mentorship, and deep technical expertise in managing on-premises, virtual, and cloud-based systems. You will be responsible for the full lifecycle of IT systems and services—including deployment, configuration, maintenance, and decommissioning. This position emphasizes security, automation, and continuous improvement, while also fostering collaboration and knowledge sharing within the team.

Requirements

  • Associate degree in Computer Science or related field (Bachelor’s preferred).
  • Minimum of 6 years of directly related technical experience.
  • Strong working knowledge of Linux (RHEL, OEL, Rocky) and Windows operating systems.
  • Experience with server, application, and container provisioning and automation.
  • Proficiency in scripting languages (e.g., PowerShell, Python) and data formats (e.g., JSON, YAML).
  • Familiarity with IaC/CaC tools (e.g., Ansible, SaltStack, Terraform).
  • Experience with virtualization and container platforms (e.g., VMware vSphere, NetApp, Kubernetes, Docker).
  • Solid understanding of security practices, incident/problem management, and monitoring tools.
  • Excellent interpersonal, organizational, leadership, and communication skills.
  • Three years of continuous residency in the US for issuance of a Government Security credential
  • The candidate must be able to obtain and maintain a national agency check and background investigation after hiring to obtain a badge for government facility access and user account

Nice To Haves

  • Certifications such as RHCSA, VCP, AWS, Azure, or ITIL v3/v4 Foundation.
  • Experience with tools like Jira (Agile/Scrum), BMC Remedy, SolarWinds, Splunk, Nlyte DCIM.
  • Awareness or experience with cloud platforms (AWS, Azure).
  • Familiarity with code debugging tools and techniques.

Responsibilities

  • Lead and support the administration of Linux (RHEL, OEL, Rocky) and Windows environments.
  • Configure, maintain, and monitor physical and virtual servers, containers, and specialized software.
  • Perform system maintenance, patching, and vulnerability remediation to ensure a secure and stable environment.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve system issues using diagnostic tools and root cause analysis.
  • Manage user access controls and system security settings.
  • Develop and maintain technical documentation, including SOPs and system configurations.
  • Serve as a technical lead on IT projects, from design through implementation and post-deployment support.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to deliver integrated IT solutions.
  • Mentor junior staff and contribute to team development and knowledge sharing.
