About The Position

We are seeking a strategic and hands-on Enterprise Architect to design and evolve Guardant’s technology ecosystem as we scale 5x over the next two years. This role is enterprise-wide, with authority to establish architectural standards, guide platform development, and accelerate delivery of reusable services and components across the business. The Enterprise Architect will partner with engineers, product, security, data science, and clinical operations teams to ensure our systems are scalable, secure, compliant, and patient-impact driven.

Requirements

  • 10+ years of progressive experience in software engineering and architecture, with 5+ years in enterprise/solution architecture leadership.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Management Information Systems, Software Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Information Systems, Bioinformatics, or a related technical field required.
  • Proven ability to design and scale digital and enterprise platforms in cloud (AWS) environments.
  • Strong expertise in modular architectures, reusable platforms, and component-driven design.
  • Experience with lab informatics, clinical systems, or healthcare data platforms strongly preferred.
  • Deep knowledge of security, compliance, and healthcare interoperability standards (e.g., HL7, FHIR, LOINC).
  • Familiarity with authorization policy frameworks and applying them to flexibly protect assets and resources.
  • Exceptional communication and leadership skills, with ability to influence executives, engineers, and clinical stakeholders.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience designing reusable platforms in diagnostics, biotech, or healthcare technology companies.
  • Track record of building enterprise-wide architectures that accelerated delivery while reducing integration complexity.

Responsibilities

  • Strategic Enterprise Architecture Define and govern Guardant’s enterprise architecture, aligning technology capabilities with business priorities and oncology innovation goals.
  • Reusable Platforms & Components Design shared platforms, modular services, and reusable components that enable faster delivery, reduce duplication, and improve scalability.
  • Scale & Performance Architect cloud-based systems to handle 5x growth in lab throughput, data analytics, and digital engagement within 24 months.
  • Data & Analytics Enablement Define enterprise data strategies and platforms for governance, interoperability, real-time analytics, and AI/ML pipelines.
  • Cloud Transformation Drive an cloud-first architecture (AWS), ensuring resilience, elasticity, security, and cost efficiency at scale.
  • Security & Privacy by Design Embed security and privacy controls into every platform, ensuring compliance with HIPAA, GDPR, CLIA, CAP, and FDA (21 CFR Part 11).
  • Governance & Standards Establish reference architectures, patterns, and frameworks to reduce technical debt, improve adoption, and enforce consistency across engineering teams.
  • Innovation & Emerging Tech Evaluate and introduce new technologies (e.g., automation, event-driven architectures, AI/ML accelerators) that strengthen Guardant’s competitive edge.
  • Influence & Mentorship Act as a trusted advisor to the engineering leaders, while mentoring architects and engineers across the company.
