About The Position

This position is accountable for the preparation of permits required when work is performed on state right-of way and other duties as assigned by the Senior Permits Technician. Requirements

Completion of two years of college in civil engineering technology, pre-engineering or a job related technical/science curriculum PLUS five years of engineering experience; OR Seven years of engineering experience.
This position has been found to meet the requirements in section 4A-101 of the Illinois Governmental Ethics Act requiring the occupant/employee to file a Statement of Economic Interest.
The employee should be aware that if offered non-State employment during state employment or within one year immediately after ending State employment, the employee shall, prior to accepting any such non-State employment offer, notify the Office of the Executive Inspector General for the Agencies of the Illinois Governor (OEIG) or may be subject to a fine.
Valid driver's license.
Extensive districtwide travel.
Successful completion of a background screening.

Responsibilities

Keeps abreast of the policies, projects, and programs in the Bureaus of Program Development and Project Implementation to obtain necessary information to properly prepare permits.
Calculates accurately the precise location of the area for which the permit is issued.
Adheres to state, department, and district policies, laws and regulations.
Provides a high level of service to the public and other agencies that the incumbent encounters. This includes proper phone etiquette and patient explanation of technical requirements to laypeople.
Maintains records of permits issued and recorded in regular logs, files, and electronic files.
Issues permits in a timely manner.
Draws permit plans utilizing available software.
Performs duties in compliance with departmental safety rules.
Performs all duties in a manner conducive to the fair and equitable treatment of all employees.
Performs other duties as assigned.
