About The Position

This position serves as the plats and plans technician and part of a survey crew that establishes existing and proposed centerlines of highways; runs control levels to establish elevations; and locates, describes, measures and obtains elevations of all topographic features. This position also establishes control for aerial mapping projects, stakes right-of way (ROW), prepares field books, computations, ROW plans, exhibits, parcel sketches and reports using computer aided design and drafting (CADD) software, performs courthouse deed and survey research, and performs departmental file research.

Requirements

  • Completion of two years of college in civil engineering technology, pre-engineering or a job related technical/science curriculum, OR two years of engineering experience.
  • Valid driver’s license.
  • Extensive districtwide travel and some statewide, which may include overnight stays.
  • Occasional overtime during evenings and weekends.
  • Ability to work in confined spaces, climb steep terrain, wade in water, and deal with poisonous plants, animals, insects, rodents, and snakes; and to perform outdoor work in a variety of conditions including, but not limited to hot, cold, wet, windy, muddy, active construction sights, and roadways open to traffic.
  • Successful completion of a background check.

Responsibilities

  • Serves as a member of a survey crew in the completion of land, route, and design surveys, and providing field control for aerial mapping projects.
  • Assists in the preparation of parcel sketches, legal descriptions, right-of-way (ROW) sheets, and court exhibits for review by registered professional Land Surveyors.
  • Assists with the research of property records and the compilation of data necessary to complete assigned survey and plat projects.
  • Performs computations in relation to land surveys and uses current survey technology to establish lines and positions.
  • Performs duties in compliance with departmental safety rules. Performs all duties in a manner conducive to the fair and equitable treatment of all employees.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
