About The Position

This position is accountable for assisting Resident Engineers and Resident Technicians in the inspection, layout and documentation of highway construction projects.Essential Functions Keeps accurate and legible records of inspections, field measurements and documentation of contract items. Keeps the Resident Engineer or Resident Technician informed on status and/or problems on contractor’s work. Provides accurate and efficient measurements and construction layout as a member of the staking crew. Inspects various items of construction for conformity with the contract. Performs duties in compliance with departmental safety rules. Performs all duties in a manner conducive to the fair and equitable treatment of all employees. Performs other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Completion of two years of college in civil engineering technology, pre-engineering or a job related technical/science curriculum OR two years of engineering experience.
  • Valid driver’s license.
  • Extensive districtwide travel and some statewide, which may include overnight stays.
  • Overtime.
  • Shift work as required per contractor.
  • Ability to work in confined spaces, climb steep terrain, wade in water, and deal with poisonous plants, animals, insects, rodents and snakes; and to perform outdoor work in a variety of conditions including, but not limited to, inclement weather (hot, cold, wet, windy, muddy), and active construction sites and roadways open to traffic.
  • Successful completion of a background check.
