About The Position

This position is accountable for providing engineering assistance to the Resident Engineer in the inspection and layout of construction projects. The Illinois Department of Transportation is seeking to hire Engineering Technicians (ET I). As an Engineering Technician I, you have the possibility of promoting to an Engineering Technician II within 12-24 months. A possibility of promoting to an Engineering Technician III within 18-30 months. Requirements

  • Two years of college in civil engineering technology, pre-engineering or job related technical/science curriculum OR Two years of engineering experience.
  • Districtwide travel.
  • Successful completion of a background screening.
  • Valid driver's license.

Responsibilities

  • Keeps accurate and legible records of inspections, field measurements, and documentation of contracts.
  • Keeps the Resident Engineer and Resident Technician, on a project by project basis, informed on status and/or problems of contractor’s work.
  • Provides accurate and efficient measurements and construction staking as a member of the survey crew.
  • Performs duties in compliance with departmental safety rules. Performs all duties in a manner conducive to the fair and equitable treatment of all employees.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
