About The Position

This role is categorized as hybrid. This means the successful candidate is expected to report to Global Technical Center – Warren three times per week, at minimum, or other frequency dictated by the business. GM Defense (GMD) is a dynamic and exciting growth opportunity within General Motors! Within GMD, the Engineering Operations team is leading efforts to build engineering systems, tools, and processes which support our service of government customers across the GMD portfolio of products. The Engineering System Analyst – GM Defense supports this mission by designing and maintaining data, reporting, and application solutions that enable reliable visibility to schedule, cost, and readiness status across GM Defense programs. You will integrate data from multiple systems, develop dashboards and reports, and streamline key processes so teams can make faster, evidence-based decisions in support of customer commitments. The Engineering System Analyst – GM Defense will collaborate with GMD-internal stakeholders, including Engineering, Engineering Ops, and the Digital & Business Operations teams to design data flows, build analytic assets, and configure tools (e.g., Power BI, SharePoint, Power Apps/Power Automate) that reduce manual work and improve data quality and transparency.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Information Systems, Computer Science, Data/Business Analytics, or a related quantitative field, or equivalent experience.
  • Candidate must either be a U.S. Person (U.S. citizen, U.S. permanent resident, asylee or refugee) or a non-U.S. Person who is eligible to obtain any required export control authorization.
  • Demonstrated experience as a System Analyst, BI Developer, or similar role working with complex, multi‑system data.
  • Advanced Proficiency with: Python for scripting, data transformation, automation, and advanced analytics. Power Apps, Power Automate, and SharePoint solutions for workflow automation, forms, and lightweight applications. SQL / Spark or similar querying languages for building and optimizing data pipelines. Power BI (or comparable BI tools) for interactive dashboards and reports. Databricks or similar data lake technologies for large scale data processing.
  • Experience gathering and documenting business and technical requirements, translating them into solution designs and user stories.
  • Strong analytical and problem‑solving skills, including the ability to interpret trends, identify data quality issues, and develop pragmatic recommendations.
  • Proven ability to work with cross‑functional and technical teams, manage multiple priorities, and deliver high‑quality work on agreed timelines.
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills, including documentation and presentation of complex information to non‑technical audiences.

Nice To Haves

  • Defense industry or government program experience
  • Background working with manufacturing, logistics, or engineering data (e.g., BOMs, build schedules, material planning, change management, cost and labor plans).
  • Prior involvement in continuous improvement / Kaizen projects focused on analytics or process digitization.

Responsibilities

  • Engage with GM Defense stakeholders to understand operational challenges and define IT/analytics requirements that support program readiness, cost management, and schedule adherence.
  • Design and implement data integrations and pipelines that connect information from engineering, manufacturing, supply chain, and financial systems into trusted analytic datasets.
  • Develop and maintain Power BI dashboards and reports that provide clear visibility to: Bill of Material (BOM) quality Production build schedule attainment Material availability Engineering and product configuration changes Program milestone achievement
  • Support BOM and configuration quality initiatives by designing data structures, reports, and workflows that highlight gaps before production lock points.
  • Help identify and retire technical debt in legacy tools (e.g., Excel/Access‑based schedules, local macros, on‑prem reports) and migrate them to governed, supportable platforms (Power BI, SharePoint, Power Apps/Power Automate).
  • Implement and maintain access, security, and documentation in alignment with GM policies and GM Defense requirements.
  • Produce clear technical and user documentation so that solutions can be supported by both IT and business teams.
  • Provide ad hoc analysis and decision support (root‑cause analysis, scenario modeling, metric deep‑dives) to support continuous improvement, Kaizen events, and leadership reviews.
