You will lead the planning, analysis, and design of aerial broadband infrastructure on joint-use utility poles, ensuring compliance, owner standards, and current pole attachment regulations. This role blends technical execution with team leadership, process improvement, and collaboration across engineering, permitting, and broadband deployment groups. Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in civil, structural, electrical, or related engineering field, or equivalent utility/OSP experience.
  • 3 to 5 years of outside plant telecom or utility distribution engineering, including direct pole loading responsibility.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office and industry standard pole loading tools; experience within GIS or CAD OSP environments preferred.
  • Knowledge of NESC requirements, utility construction standards, and broadband pole attachment practices.
  • Experience reviewing and approving pole models, make-ready designs, and construction packages.
  • Strong communication, organization, and problem solving skills; ability to manage schedules and deliverables.
  • Work is primarily performed in an office or hybrid environment. Some field review or travel may be required.

Responsibilities

  • Lead pole loading analysis to support broadband builds, including new fiber deployment and attachment rearrangements.
  • Review survey data, inventories, and models to determine pole capacity, clearance compliance, and required make-ready or pole replacement.
  • Produce and approve pole loading reports, make-ready recommendations, and construction drawing packages.
  • Coordinate with OSP design, field survey, permitting, and construction teams to validate designs and resolve conflicts.
  • Apply NESC requirements, safety codes, and utility owner standards to ensure safe, compliant, cost effective designs.
  • Mentor and train analysts and designers while providing technical oversight and quality control review.
  • Maintain workload tracking, project schedules, and deliverables; support proposals and level of effort estimates.
  • Improve tools, templates, and processes to enhance throughput, accuracy, and documentation quality.
  • Collaborate with leadership in the Energy Utilities division to align goals, expectations, and project outcomes.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.
