About The Position

Know all emergency procedures (fire, sever weather, bomb threats, guest accidents/illness, etc.).   Plan, direct and supervise the daily activities of the Engineering Department.   Maintain a high standard of job performance for all hourly department associates.   Maintain high department productivity.   Perform accurate and efficient repairs on hotel equipment and systems of a technically advanced nature.   Maintain specific and measurable performance notes on all hourly department associates.   Participate in effective performance appraisals for all hourly associates.   Write and post a weekly work schedule for all hourly associates.   Have the knowledge and skills to be able to efficiently and accurately repair HVAC, plumbing, refrigeration, machinery, boiler, etc. with a minimum need to call outside contractors.   Assume control of the Engineering Department in the absence of the Chief Engineer.   Provide effective training and assistance to all hourly department employees.   Work with outside contractors.

Requirements

  • Able to communicate accurately and effectively in verbal and written form with guests and associates so as to respond accurately and completely to people to give directions, instructions, information, answer questions and provide service as required.
  • Efficiently operate small hand tools such as drills, grinders, saws, etc.
  • Safely climb ladders and stairs.
  • Efficiently and safely operate machinery such as key cutter, drill press, radial arm saw, etc.
  • Understand and efficiently maintain and operate advanced electrical, plumbing, refrigeration and boiler systems.
  • Stand and walk for long periods of time.
  • Efficiently handle test equipment, hand tools, key, etc.
  • Lift and carry heavy objects such as boxes, televisions, ladders, etc.
  • Learn new tasks.
  • Train other department members.
  • Read and understand test equipment and measuring devices.
  • Read and understand blueprints, schematic drawings and technical parts breakdown.
  • Efficiently operate all building systems.
  • Produce accurate written technical reports.
  • Use arithmetic to accurately calculate man hours, department productivity and budget maintenance.
  • Use mathematical formulas to accurately calculate electrical and mechanical leads.
  • Work around heated and/or cold conditions.
  • Stoop, reach, lift, climb, push, pull, bend, walk, handle and stand in order to maintain and repair equipment.
