Job Summary The Engineering Manager will report to the VP of Engineering and lead a team of engineers and designers to create innovative new designs of Industry leading Pontoon boats. The team will be responsible for supporting a mix of New Product Development and Product Sustainment design activities. The successful candidate will have strong leadership skills and the ability to hire, coach and develop the engineering team. The role will be responsible for managing the team execution of design development activities to improve Design Quality, deliver cost reductions, drive Design for Manufacture & Assembly (DFMA) improvements, support Supply Chain and Customer Service needs, and support the launch of NPD projects. Additionally, this role will drive continuous improvement activities to increase the efficiency and effectiveness of engineering tools and processes, and will contribute to the development of the product strategy, and innovation roadmap.

Requirements

  • Demonstrated ability to lead effectively in fast-paced, innovative and dynamic team environment including the ability to create a sense of urgency and common purpose
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate and develop relationships with internal and external cross-functional partners including all levels of management, technical and nontechnical
  • Demonstrated ability to lead, manage and drive engineering rigor within the technical team responsible for the design and development of current and new products, including the following: o FEA and application of FEA in design, CFD or other math model simulations desired o Application of free body diagrams and hand calculations of statics and dynamics o GD&T and dimensional tolerance stack-ups o Failure Modes & Effects Analysis (FMEA) o Design for Manufacture and Assembly (DFMA)
  • High level of analytical ability for difficult / complex technical problems, including demonstrated ability to lead and coach teams through problem solving.
  • Demonstrated ability to provide timely and ongoing feedback, training, and coaching to Engineering staff enabling career development of the team.
  • Demonstrated ability to effectively plan and manage a team of resources to meet deliverables across multiple product development projects
  • Thorough knowledge of Engineering fundamentals and their application to both the design and analysis of mechanical systems within new product development.
  • Design experience across multiple manufacturing processes including sheet metal, castings, machined components, fiberglass, plastic injection mold, blow mold, thermo-form and rotational mold preferred.
  • Six Sigma certification, with practical application of statistical analysis, and data based decision making preferred
  • Project Management Professional (PMP) certification desired
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Strong leader with demonstrated ability to lead cross-functional development projects, quick learner with high level of ambition and resolve, self-starter able to manage complexity and ambiguous design paths, creative problem solver that can drive innovative solutions
  • Microsoft software including Excel, Project, Word, Outlook and PowerPoint
  • Required-B.S. in Mechanical Engineering, or a related Engineering discipline
  • 10-12 years product design development experience

Responsibilities

  • Leads the Engineering team to create product designs aligned with engineering principles, company and industry manufacturing processes, government regulations, and customer requirements.
  • Utilize root cause problem solving to drive design related product improvements to meet customer needs, improve component performance and styling, and resolve purchasing and manufacturing issues with emphasis on quality, reliability, timely delivery, and cost.
  • Complete Engineering analysis, electronic models, and statistical analysis to predict the success of component and system designs prior to physical prototypes
  • Generate CAD models, layouts, detail drawings, and tolerance analysis required to produce robust design solutions, and supervises their release through the release cycle.
  • Creates project development schedules and resource plans and manages the Engineering teams timely completion of tasks to meet overall business objectives.
  • Provides technical oversight and coaching development for project engineers and designers including: determining the ideal component manufacturing process, creating new component and system requirements, preparing new concept designs/sketches.
  • Leads the team’s execution of research and development activities to drive the technical evolution of component and system designs including: creating design reviews to gain cross-functional partner input, planning and executing prototype builds, driving system verification and validation testing, executing certification activities, and driving design improvements/revisions based on learnings.
  • Leads and manages the team to deliver company objectives in the areas of Design Quality, Design for Manufacture and Assembly, Cost Reduction, and Product Sustainment.
  • Contribute to product strategy development including product platforming and architecture simplification improvements, technology evaluation and innovation concept development, and product roadmap inputs.
  • Leads continuous improvement initiatives to develop Engineering team processes and tools, design standards, design guidelines, standard work instructions, and test and validation procedures.
