Position Summary: The Engineering Manager serves as the leader of the site engineering team, responsible for driving strategic initiatives, managing engineering projects, and fostering continuous improvement across manufacturing operations. This role ensures the successful execution of engineering activities that support business growth, product continuity, and operational excellence. The manager collaborates closely with the design center to support new product commercialization, line extensions, and capacity expansion initiatives. As a member of the site Leadership Team, the Engineering Manager plays a key role in shaping the site's technical direction and culture.

Requirements

  • Proficiency in SolidWorks or comparable programs
  • Knowledge of computer logic or programming
  • Strong interpersonal skills required in the areas of verbal and written communications, presentation skills, consensus building, customer focus, professionalism, coaching, influencing, and team building.
  • Managerial skills, including technical writing, budgeting, and office software.
  • Ability to interpret Regulations, Corporate, Business Unit, Facility and Department Procedures.
  • Ability to participate and provide leadership on teams and maintain positive work environment with those teams.
  • Understand team functions, leadership techniques and project management methodologies.
  • Engineering Degree from an accredited university, required
  • 3 years’ experience in engineering roles in a manufacturing environment, preferably in an FDA regulated industry
  • 5 years’ experience in training and employee development
  • Solid foundation in Lean/Six Sigma methodologies
  • Knowledge of statistical methods including control charts, process capability measurements, and design of experiments
  • Ability to troubleshoot electrical, pneumatic, and automated systems
  • Machining using mills, lathes, CNC machines
  • Project management experience

Responsibilities

  • Evaluate manufacturing processes through research and statistical analysis.
  • Improve manufacturing efficiency by optimizing workflow, space utilization, and equipment layout using BD Excellence principles.
  • Lead cross-functional teams on R&D and sustaining engineering projects.
  • Drive process improvements, change control, and validation activities (TMVs, IQ/OQ/PQ).
  • Direct preventive maintenance and troubleshooting of operations and facility equipment.
  • Apply engineering knowledge to enhance product design, fabrication, tooling, and materials.
  • Specify manufacturing processes, methods, tools, equipment, and controls.
  • Prepare and manage operating budgets and schedules.
  • Coordinate engineering efforts with other departments at the Carol Stream site.
  • Implement and uphold corporate safety standards and facility procedures.
  • Follow Quality Systems Regulations and established procedures.
  • Promote and model behavior consistent with the BD Way including Values, Leadership Commitments and Growth Mindset.
  • Responsible for attainment of plant and departmental goals in support of overall plant objectives.
  • Identifies development needs and potentials of employees and provides or recommends project assignments and training to increase expertise to meet current or future division needs.
  • Perform other duties and projects as assigned.
