Description PRIMARY DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES Safety & Compliance Ensure engineering activities comply with safety regulations, environmental requirements, and company policies. Champion process safety initiatives and participate in audits, HAZOPs, and incident investigations. Develop and maintain documentation and standards for equipment, systems, and processes. Leadership & Team Development Lead, mentor, and develop a team of engineers and technical specialists. Establish clear goals, performance metrics, and development plans for the engineering team. Foster a culture of safety, accountability, innovation, and technical excellence. Plant Engineering & Reliability Oversee the design and optimization of plant equipment, systems, and infrastructure. Troubleshoot complex technical issues and provide expert guidance to Operations and Maintenance. Process Improvement & Optimization Drive continuous improvement initiatives focused on safety, productivity, quality, and cost reduction. Lead root-cause analyses and implement corrective actions for process deviations or equipment failures. Utilize Lean, Six Sigma, or other methodologies to optimize manufacturing performance. Capital Projects Manage the planning, justification, and execution of capital projects ranging from equipment upgrades to facility expansions. Develop project scopes, budgets, timelines, and risk assessments. Coordinate with contractors, vendors, and internal stakeholders to ensure successful project delivery. Cross-Functional Collaboration Partner with Operations to support daily production goals and resolve technical challenges. Work with Quality to ensure manufacturing processes meet product specifications and standards. Collaborate with Supply Chain and Procurement on equipment sourcing and vendor evaluation. Work with Maintenance to prevent electrical and mechanical obsolescence of controls and equipment. Partner with HSE to incorporate company health, safety, and environmental requirements into plant equipment and processes. EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE QUALIFICATIONS Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Electrical, Industrial, Chemical Engineering, or related discipline. 7+ years of engineering experience in a manufacturing or industrial environment. 3+ years of leadership experience managing engineers, supervisors, or technical teams preferred. Proven track record of leading reliability programs, process improvement initiatives, or capital projects JOB REQUIREMENTS Strong leadership, communication, and people development skills. Deep understanding of plant systems, manufacturing processes, and industrial equipment. Proficiency in Lean manufacturing, Six Sigma, reliability engineering, or project management methodologies preferred. Manufacturing Processes & Equipment o Deep understanding of plant manufacturing processes (e.g., machining, fabrication, assembly, molding, chemical processing—customizable). o Knowledge of equipment design, operation, performance, and failure modes. o Experience with equipment selection and specification. Process Optimization & Continuous Improvement o Proficiency with Lean manufacturing, Six Sigma, and waste-reduction methodologies. o Ability to analyze process data to improve throughput, reduce downtime, and enhance quality. o Experience in workflow design and OEE improvement. Project Engineering & Capital Project Management o Skilled in planning, budgeting, and executing capital projects. o Understanding of project lifecycle: scoping, feasibility, design, procurement, commissioning, and close-out. o Ability to manage contractors and coordinate with external engineering firms. Automation & Controls (optional/role-specific) o Understanding of PLCs, HMIs, SCADA systems, robotics, and automated manufacturing technologies. o Ability to collaborate with controls engineers and maintenance on troubleshooting and upgrades. Quality Systems & Standards o Familiarity with ISO, API, ASME, or industry-specific quality standards. o Knowledge of statistical process control (SPC) and quality assurance methods. o Ability to integrate engineering practices with quality system requirements. Safety Engineering & Regulatory Compliance o Understanding of OSHA regulations, machine guarding, lockout/tagout (LOTO), and process safety principles. o Experience participating in HAZOPs, PSM audits, or safety risk assessments. o Ability to design systems and processes with inherent safety considerations. Data Analysis & Technical Software Skills o Proficiency with engineering and analysis software (AutoCAD, SolidWorks, MATLAB, Minitab, etc. depending on plant type). o Ability to leverage data insights for decision-making and performance optimization. Technical Documentation & Standards Development o Capable of creating and maintaining SOPs, engineering standards, equipment specifications, and maintenance procedures. o Ensures documentation is accurate, compliant, and up to date.
