The Design Manager acts as the group manager, reporting directly to the Engineering Manager. In this position, the Design Manager is responsible for the career development of the Design Engineers to include training/coaching (both internal and external), career pathways, and skill development. The Design Manager is responsible for overseeing the investigation, recommendation, and implementation of new technologies by the organization to best support both in-house processes and projects as well as those in support of end customer projects. In this role, the Design Manager is expected to conduct regular one on one meetings with their direct reports while conducting team meetings bi-weekly. A Design Manager collaborates with coworkers, customers, and suppliers to utilize the latest technologies while creating equipment for integration into distribution and production solutions across material handling and various manufacturing industries . This involves understanding the customer’s goals and objectives in order to develop and support smart engineered solutions. The Design Manager is responsible for overseeing team members through all phases of their projects. These phases include research and concepting, applications sales support, component selection, system design and layout using standard components or custom engineering when necessary, drawing package creation and release, design and release review, testing, troubleshooting and documentation submission. The Design Manager is a position for an individual with the experience to apply technical skills learned previously to provide value to Bastian Solutions’ engineering teams through assignment and oversight of engineering duties for other team members. The Design Manager’s responsibility is to help direct the work of the team and serve as a mentor for experienced team members as well as Team Leads. The ideal candidate will also have several years of automotive equipment design experience, preferably within a Tier 1 or Tier 2 custom equipment supplier, where exposure to highly engineered, safety‑critical, turn-key, and production‑intensive systems is common. Experience must include working with or supporting robotic automation systems, with an understanding of industrial robot integration, cell design, safety standards, electrtical integration and automated process development.
