About The Position

We are looking for two Engineering Managers to lead high-performing teams building products that help millions of Americans regain financial stability. This role combines strong technical judgment with people leadership, requiring someone who can set direction, pressure-test decisions, and create the conditions for engineers to thrive. You will own outcomes end-to-end — what ships, how it ships, and whether your team is growing in capability and impact. The ideal candidate is a former senior individual contributor (e.g., Staff Engineer) who transitioned into management in the past few years and remains deeply product- and architecture-oriented. This is not a “manager of managers” role — it is a hands-on leadership position within a fast-scaling fintech environment. You will lead a team of 5–8 engineers and play a key role in shaping both technical systems and engineering culture.

Requirements

  • 6+ years of software engineering experience
  • 2–3+ years of experience managing a team of 4+ engineers
  • Proven track record of shipping complex products from ambiguity to delivery
  • Demonstrated experience growing engineers into more senior roles
  • Strong architectural and systems thinking
  • Experience participating in code reviews and technical decision-making
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with Python (Flask), TypeScript, Temporal, PostgreSQL, AWS
  • Experience with event-driven architectures
  • Background in high-caliber engineering cultures
  • Experience in fast-scaling or high-growth product environments

Responsibilities

  • Lead a team of 5–8 engineers to deliver impactful, high-quality product releases
  • Define technical direction and ensure architectural clarity and ownership
  • Make explicit tradeoffs and defend scope to ensure predictable, high-quality delivery
  • Hire and develop engineers who raise the bar for the organization
  • Create growth plans, provide continuous feedback, and retain top talent
  • Ensure systems are observable, reliable, and well-documented
  • Lead post-mortems that address root causes, not just symptoms
  • Remove blockers and reduce ambiguity to maximize team effectiveness
  • Partner closely with product and cross-functional teams to align on outcomes
