Job Summary Bread Financial is a technology-driven payments company that partners with merchants and partners to personalize payment options for their customers. Bread integrates directly with merchants on their ecommerce site and gives them a single platform that lets them offer more ways to pay over time. Bread's full-funnel recommendation engine serves up the right options at the right time, empowering merchants to sell more, improve conversion, and lift average-order-value. Bread has enormous and engaging technical challenges. We need to verify online identity, predict fraud, and approve and price credit while providing a beautiful and frictionless consumer experience, all in real time. Our engineering team is seasoned, talented, agile, and quickly growing. We are looking to hire an Engineering Manager to join the current engineering team in continuing to build out our core platform, product, and teams.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science or related field or equivalent, relevant work experience
  • 2+ years of experience managing and/or leading engineering teams.
  • 2+ years experience with technical components utilized by the team (building scalable and reliable distributed systems, public web APIs and server-side languages and data stores such as Go, Java, PostgreSQL, Redis, etc).

Responsibilities

  • Lead a team of highly engaged associates and contractors, ensuring that team meets or exceeds the defined role expectations.
  • Ensure that direct reports understand role expectations.
  • Provide development to a team with ongoing coaching and feedback, performance management, career development and administrative support.
  • Coaching and mentoring development staff to enable them to reach their peak potential and cultivate high-performing teams.
  • Provide peer coaching and feedback formally and informally.
  • Request and utilize feedback to foster personal development.
  • Use recognized industry models and methodologies to develop, execute, and continuously improve development practices in collaboration with all major stakeholder and functional roles.
  • Actively participate in the development of technology and integrated application roadmaps.
  • Utilize the software development lifecycle to implement technology solutions that create and enhance applications.
  • Continuously improve applications and processes with a focus on quality, efficiency, and user experience.
  • Develop and maintain organizational strategies that support current and future workforce, business, and financial needs.
  • Appropriately manage resource capacity and demand to meet business delivery and production support expectations.
  • Act in a leadership role to provide guidance to the development team and act as a liaison for multiple areas of the business and external clients.
  • As necessary, work across the organization and function as Project Development Lead for enterprise-scale efforts.
  • Develop and maintain organizational strategies that support current and future workforce, business, and financial needs.
  • Cultivate relationships across roles and organizations to maximize collaboration, partnership, and efficiency.
  • Provide peer coaching and feedback formally and informally.
  • Request and utilize feedback to foster personal development.
  • Expectation is to oversee at least two Golang microservices.
  • Support at least one business such as Credit Risk, Account Protection, Customer Care, etc.
  • Maintain and manage one to two vendor relationships.

  • Illinois associates receive 40 hours of Illinois PSST upon hire and at the beginning of each subsequent calendar year and 40 hours of Illinois Paid Leave upon hire and at the beginning of each subsequent calendar year.
  • Illinois Paid Leave must be used before associates in Illinois will be approved to take FTO.
  • Hired associates will be able to elect the purchase company stock during offering periods in June and December.
  • You will be eligible for an annual incentive bonus based on individual and company performance.
