About The Position

GCyber is seeking an Engineering Lead/SME to help support our government customer. The Engineering Lead / SME is the senior technical authority responsible for designing, governing, and validating all network and infrastructure engineering activities in the Norfolk operating area. This role ensures that all projects, MACs, and modernization efforts are engineered correctly, built to standard, and aligned to enterprise architecture, security requirements, and operational reliability objectives. This is not a paper-pushing role. The Engineering Lead actively directs technical execution, resolves complex engineering problems, and serves as the escalation point for design, integration, and deployment risk.

Requirements

  • An active DoD Top Secret/SCI clearance
  • 10+ years of enterprise network or infrastructure engineering experience.
  • IAT II Certification (i.e. Security+, CySA+, CCNA-Security, CND, GICSP, GSEC, SSCP)
  • Deep hands-on experience with large-scale wired network environments.
  • Strong understanding of access, distribution, and core network design.
  • Experience supporting mission-critical or government environments.
  • Ability to read, produce, and validate engineering drawings and network documentation.
  • Strong troubleshooting, analytical, and technical decision-making skills.

  • DoD environment experience.
  • Familiarity with large campus, base, or enterprise transport networks.
  • Experience working with cable plant, facilities, and construction teams.

Responsibilities

  • Act as the lead authority for all network, transport, and infrastructure changes in the Norfolk area.
  • Maintain technical design integrity across access, distribution, and core layers.
  • Validate engineering solutions for performance, security, and resiliency.
  • Approve network designs, bills of materials, implementation plans, and as-built documentation.
  • Lead engineering for MACs, ECPs, and modernization projects, translating mission requirements into buildable designs.
  • Identify risks, constraints, and dependencies, ensuring changes are staged, tested, and implemented with minimal operational impact.
  • Enforce engineering standards, templates, and configuration baselines while ensuring compliance with DoD, DISA, and site-specific requirements.
  • Serve as the technical escalation point for complex incidents, providing expert troubleshooting and root cause analysis.
  • Collaborate with government engineers, site leads, project managers, and field teams, representing engineering authority during reviews and approvals.
  • Ensure all engineering decisions and changes are clearly communicated and properly documented.
