About The Position

Schweitzer Engineering Laboratories (SEL) seeks a professional and dynamic college student for an Engineering Intern position in Research & Development Department. The ideal candidate for this position will be able to work part-time during the school year and full-time during the summer. The candidate will assist a team of power engineers in the development of next generation SEL products. As an Engineering Intern, a typical day might include the following: Assist in the development of next generation SEL products. Provide technical support to R&D engineering staff. Perform testing on new and existing technology. Document and communicate test results. Follow and apply SEL Values, Principles of Operations, and World Class Manufacturing Principles. Understand. Create. Simplify. Other duties as assigned. This job might be for you if: Currently pursuing a BS, MS, or PhD degree in electrical engineering, or computer engineering near the Charlotte, NC area Ability to work part-time during the school year and full-time during the summer Practical knowledge of 3-phase power systems Ability to use Microsoft Visio Strong writing, documentation, and speaking skills Ability to learn new skills and assume new responsibilities Ability to work cooperatively in a team environment Background check results satisfactory to SEL Negative drug test result(s)

Requirements

  • Currently pursuing a BS, MS, or PhD degree in electrical engineering, or computer engineering near the Charlotte, NC area
  • Ability to work part-time during the school year and full-time during the summer
  • Practical knowledge of 3-phase power systems
  • Ability to use Microsoft Visio
  • Strong writing, documentation, and speaking skills
  • Ability to learn new skills and assume new responsibilities
  • Ability to work cooperatively in a team environment
  • Background check results satisfactory to SEL
  • Negative drug test result(s)

Nice To Haves

  • Working knowledge of SEL products
  • Experience in power system modeling using EMTP
  • Experience in MATLAB® and/or Python programming
  • Knowledge of power system analysis, electrical circuit analysis, short circuit studies, and power system stability analysis
