About The Position

Under close supervision, the Engineering Intern will be provided with a hands-on experience of assisting engineering staff with development and/or capital improvement program projects.  This internship position is in the Engineering Services Section and the Intern will perform various duties in the office and/or at project sites, construction sites, and anywhere else that may be needed. BENEFITS TO INTERN Interns will gain an introduction to a career in public service, learn about water treatment and distribution, and have hands on experience with supporting engineering staff at a water agency. BENEFITS TO AGENCY The Agency needs additional help in the Engineering Services Section. The Engineering Intern can assist the agency by performing simple tasks to include but not limited to project management support on various development and/or capital improvement program projects.

Requirements

  • Interns must be currently enrolled in an Engineering Program at a community college, undergraduate, or graduate degree program, or a graduate of any of these schools/programs within one year, to be eligible for an internship.
  • All candidates must be students currently enrolled in a community college, undergraduate, or graduate degree program, or a graduate of any of these schools/programs within one year, to be eligible for an internship.
  • Must have a current cumulative overall GPA of 2.5 or higher on a 4.0 scale.
  • Must be able to be lawfully employed in United States.
  • Must apply for a specific available internship opportunity.
  • Able to be interviewed and accepted by SCV Water.
  • Able to pass the necessary pre-employment background checks.
  • Able to commit to an assignment for no less than 60 days.
  • Able to meet the specific job requirements related to working schedule, location, transportation, and dress code.
  • Able to successfully complete new hire onboarding and safety training.
  • Must be willing to adhere to the Agency’s policies and procedures, departmental rules and regulations, and all safety rules and regulations.

Responsibilities

  • Using Oracle to provide project budget tracking support.
  • Assist engineering staff with project management support during planning, design, and/or construction.
  • Using various programs such as MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint), GIS, AutoCAD, MS Project, Procore, to provide project management/administration support.
  • Providing miscellaneous support such as picking up and/or dropping off documents, recording documents, etc.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned by supervisor.
