About The Position

The Engineering Group Manager - Advanced Manufacturing & Automation Implementation leads deployment of advanced automation (AMR, cobots, and related technologies) across GM’s global manufacturing facilities. You will own strategy through execution—from proof of concept through launch—ensuring solutions are standardized, scalable, and operationally ready, while leading a high-performing team of manufacturing engineers and aligning strategy, funding, and plant execution for a manufacturing sector. You will build and maintain plant automation roadmaps, drive disciplined proof-of-concept validation and Gate 8–10 readiness, support implementation in plants to ensure stability and adoption, and act as the primary escalation point to remove roadblocks. You will use dashboards and data to track performance and capture lessons learned to accelerate future deployments, partnering closely with Automation, R&D, ARC, CI, MO, Plant Operations, IT, PE, GA Execution, and Advanced Operations to improve safety, quality, and throughput.

Requirements

  • 10+ years manufacturing experience with strong manufacturing engineering background in assembly and/or powertrain.
  • Demonstrated experience leading technical teams and complex cross-functional initiatives.
  • Strong communication skills with the ability to simplify complex technical topics for diverse and senior audiences.

  • Proven manufacturing engineering process knowledge and automotive industry experience.
  • Experience with launch, supplier management, and strategy execution in a global, matrixed environment.
  • Ability to lead in ambiguous, high-pressure environments and influence across functions and regions.
  • Master’s degree or higher in a technical or managerial discipline.

Responsibilities

  • Lead, mentor, and develop a high-performing team of engineers aligned to business objectives and KPIs.
  • Own sector-level plant plans for AMR, cobots, and emerging automation technologies.
  • Align funding and integrate automation initiatives into plant, program, and enterprise roadmaps.
  • Lead proof-of-concept and launch readiness activities, ensuring standard readiness criteria are met.
  • Define and maintain standardized readiness checklists, dashboards, and data-driven performance tracking.
  • Support implementation across plants, ensuring solution stability, user adoption, and sustained performance.
  • Serve as primary escalation point to remove execution barriers and maintain momentum.
  • Communicate strategy, status, risks, and outcomes to senior leadership and key stakeholders.
