About The Position

America's second oldest horse racing track, the Fair Grounds has been a New Orleans staple since 1852. We are a premiere entertainment venue presenting thoroughbred & exotic animal races, slots, video poker and simulcasting year-round. Located in New Orleans, Fair Grounds operates a slot-machine gaming facility and 13 off-track betting parlors throughout southeast Louisiana.JOB SUMMARY Responsible for the repair and upkeep of the property including but not limited to barns, grandstand, office buildings, and grounds. Under the direct supervision of the facilities supervisor, or a higher-level operation's member.  The employee will perform a variety of tasks in the maintenance, repair or operation of various equipment and facilities.

Requirements

  • Must be 21 years or older.
  • Must have a Valid State Driver's License.
  • Must have a 1st or 2nd class City of New Orleans Stationary Engineer's certification (Boiler and Air Conditioning).
  • Must be able to obtain a Racing License from the Louisiana Racing Commission.
  • To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.

Responsibilities

  • Perform or arrange for repairs, such as complete overhauls, replacement of defective valves, gasket, or bearings, pumps, compressors, pneumatic and air-conditioning equipment.
  • Monitor and inspect equipment, switches, valves, gauges, alarms, safety devices and meter to detect leaks or malfunctions, and to ensure that equipment is operating efficiently and safely.
  • Clean and lubricate equipment and make minor adjustments as needed using hand tools.
  • Maintain daily logs of operation, maintenance, and safety activities, including test results, instrument reading and details of equipment malfunction and maintenance work.
  • Monitor and inspect the building's plumbing systems making repairs or replacing water sewer or waste lines, and in the daily maintenance activities.
  • Check and test electrical systems to determine voltages, using voltage meters.
  • Performing other related duties, as assigned.
