Job Description Summary The Engineering II performs general maintenance work to ensure hotel physical plant quality and safety standards are achieved and maintained. The MT takes care of the building, equipment and grounds of the hotel. This position will perform maintenance and repairs, and preventative maintenance, to all areas of the hotel. Job Description DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Perform general maintenance and repairs for assigned area of expertise such as the interior and exterior of buildings, hotel rooms and contents, laundry and kitchen/refrigeration equipment, lighting, heating, air conditioning (HVAC), ventilation, water treatment systems, and swimming pool, etc. Perform preventative maintenance on a regular basis and ensure that assigned equipment is maintained and operational. Adhere to federal, state and local safety regulations, brand standards and other compliance requirements. Report all unsafe conditions or malfunctioning equipment to supervisor. Follow procedures that ensure the security of inventory and assets such as tools, supplies, equipment, furniture, televisions, etc. Replenish supplies and inventory in a timely and efficient manner and minimizes waste. Take required readings on equipment. Replace and program televisions as needed. Replace light switches, receptacles, light bulbs and fixtures. Paint designated areas and perform plumbing repairs (i.e. clogged drains, copper pipe, change washers, change handles, drain fittings, etc). Understand and be able to read blueprints and wiring diagrams. Refurbish furniture and fixtures and repair all types of wall coverings. Repair and program hotel electronic lock system. Deal with reasonable complaints/requests with professionalism and patience. Display professional appearance and demeanor at all times. Attend departmental pre-shift and mandatory meetings. Perform other duties as requested by management. QUALIFICATIONS AND REQUIREMENTS: Advanced vocational training plus a minimum of two (2) years of experience in general building maintenance, hotel engineering, or construction; or an equivalent combination of education and hands-on experience. Prior experience in hospitality, extended stay properties, or apartment building maintenance strongly preferred. Working knowledge of general maintenance trades, including plumbing, carpentry, drywall repair, painting, equipment mechanics, and preventative maintenance practices. Demonstrated experience in commercial kitchen equipment maintenance and repair, including troubleshooting ovens, ranges, fryers, dish machines, refrigeration units, and associated gas and electrical systems preferred. Working knowledge of electrical systems, including the ability to safely troubleshoot circuits, replace outlets, switches, lighting fixtures, ballasts, and perform minor electrical repairs in accordance with code. Experience with HVAC systems, including preventative maintenance, filter changes, troubleshooting PTAC units, split systems, exhaust fans, and basic refrigeration principles. HVAC Certification (EPA Universal or Type I & II) strongly preferred. Any relevant trade certifications (HVAC, electrical, CFC/EPA, OSHA safety training) preferred. Ability to speak, read, and write fluent English; additional languages are a plus. Ability to read and interpret equipment manuals, safety guidelines, blueprints, and work orders. Basic mathematical skills required for measurements, material calculations, and equipment diagnostics. Strong troubleshooting, problem-solving, organizational, and time management skills. Ability to work independently with minimal supervision and respond effectively to guest and operational needs. Valid driver’s license required. Physical requirements include frequent standing, walking, bending, kneeling, climbing ladders, and moving throughout the facility. Regular handling of tools, equipment, and commercial-grade chemicals. Ability to lift, carry, or pull items weighing up to 75 pounds. Must be available to work mornings, evenings, weekends, and holidays as operational needs require.
