About The Position

We are seeking a Mechanical Design Engineer to join our team and drive the development of complex aerospace products from concept through manufacturing. In this role, you will collaborate with engineering to create initial 2D concepts, develop 3D models, assemblies, and manufacturing-ready drawings in NX, and support the transition to Model-Based Definition. You will apply tolerance analyses to ensure proper fit and performance, manage Bills of Materials, work closely with detailers and drafters, and verify design data for compliance with aerospace and internal standards. Additionally, you will support cross-functional teams, including Structures, and ensure proper filing, control, and export classification of design data.

Requirements

  • Typically requires a degree in Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM) and minimum 2 years of prior relevant experience or an Advanced Degree in a related field
  • U.S. citizenship is required, as only U.S. citizens are authorized to access information under this program/contract.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience designing complex assemblies in a 3D mechanical CAD environment.
  • Ability to read and interpret mechanical and electrical models, assemblies, and piece part drawings.
  • Knowledge of GD&T per ANSI Y14.5 standards and experience with drafting and Product Lifecycle Management (PLM) tools.
  • Experience using Siemens NX and Teamcenter for mechanical product design.
  • Experience in manufacturing processes and supervising design or drafting teams.
  • Experience applying Model-Based Definition (MBD) and Additive Manufacturing techniques.
  • Ability to obtain a U.S. government-issued Secret security clearance is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Work with engineering to develop the initial 2D concept of the product.
  • Create 3D product models, outlines, layouts, 2D drawings, and 3D PDFs.
  • Create solid models of piece parts, housings, and assemblies in NX; support the transition toward Model-Based Definition and direct-to-manufacture processes.
  • Apply tolerance stack-up analysis results to ensure correct fit, alignment, and performance of complex assemblies.
  • Create assemblies in NX and manage the Bill of Materials (BOM).
  • Create dimensioned, detailed component drawings for high-complexity piece parts.
  • Worked closely with lead detailers and drafters to support the completion of component drawings for design projects.
  • Check drawings for accuracy, proper GD&T, and compliance with aerospace industry standards as well as Collins’ drafting and manufacturing standards.
  • Support the interface with the Structures Group to ensure they have the necessary physical product definitions to perform stress, thermal, and dynamic analyses as required and directed by engineering.
  • Ensure proper filing, control, and export classification of all created design data.
