Summary of Position Functions The Engineer I-Energy Consulting will support the design, development, implementation, analysis, and delivery of energy efficiency and commissioning projects. This role will perform field work including energy audits, field verifications, and testing of mechanical, plumbing, lighting, and control systems. In addition, a portion of time will be spent on improving personal skills and development and our team’s tools and processes.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering from a four-year college or university (Mechanical Engineering, preferred); or 3 + years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Basic understanding of commercial and industrial HVAC systems, energy efficiency concepts, and energy modeling techniques required.
  • Passion for energy efficiency and clean energy technology requried.
  • 0-3 years of practical experience in building commissioning, retro- commissioning, HVAC, energy, and/or controls required.
  • Knowledge of Veregy’s services and processes is required which can be obtained through intellect, technical inclination, and dedication to gain such knowledge.
  • Knowledge (intermediate to advanced) of various operating systems, software products (i.e. Excel, Outlook, etc.), is required.
  • Ability to effectively respond to common inquiries or complaints from customers and staff.
  • Ability to work independently and efficiently manage time / workload.
  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret financial reports, business, professional, and technical documents.
  • Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form.
  • Ability to write presentations, articles, routine reports, proposals, and correspondence.
  • Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from management and staff.
  • Ability to speak and communicate effectively before customers and staff.
  • Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.
  • Ability to interpret an extensive variety of instructions and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.
  • Ability to prioritize tasks and tactfully negotiate priority with end users.
  • Ability to work under deadline pressure and extra hours if needed.
  • Must be able to travel at least 35% of the time, mostly in California, but occasionally across the United States.

Nice To Haves

  • Master’s degree in engineering, preferred.
  • EIT license, preferred.
  • PE license or working toward PE licensure preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Performs and/or supports staff with energy audits, energy analysis, energy and cost savings calculations.
  • Compiles reports and analysis, including energy master plans, decarbonization plans, measurement, and verification (M&V) plans and reports, and RCx and Cx plans and reports.
  • Supports energy audits, retro-commissioning, and/or new building commissioning fieldwork.
  • Supports decarbonization and electrification projects, such as solar PV, battery storage, electric vehicles, and fuel substitution studies.
  • Completes continuing education training and pursues and maintains professional certifications.
  • Contributes to the ongoing enhancement of the field tools and analytics processes.
  • Conducts or assists with the development of project deliverables, including organizing and writing reports, drafting prefunctional and functional performance tests, writing Cx and M&V plans and other Cx documentation, developing SOOs.
  • Conducts site assessments to review systems and collect data from facilities.
  • Develops new analytical tools and delivers advanced technical training.
