About The Position

Willdan Lighting and Electric (WLE), a subsidiary of Willdan, is seeking an Energy Engineer I for their New York office. This role involves conducting site visits to identify and confirm potential electric and gas conservation measures, collecting and evaluating project documentation such as utility bills and as-built drawings, and identifying applicable energy efficiency incentives. The engineer will analyze energy usage data, perform detailed energy savings calculations, and calculate cost savings and return on investment (ROI) for energy-efficient improvements. Key responsibilities also include reviewing architectural, mechanical, or electrical plans and specifications to evaluate energy efficiency, inspecting or monitoring energy systems like HVAC and daylighting, and providing consultation to clients or other engineers on topics such as climate control systems, energy modeling, and sustainable design. The position requires meeting project submission deadlines and coordinating meetings with energy contractors/consultants.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent preferred.
  • 1-2 or more years of engineering experience.
  • Ability to prioritize multiple projects and tasks to ensure timely delivery of high-quality deliverables.
  • Demonstrated ability to collaborate with a wide range of stakeholders while delivering excellent customer service in a highly dynamic growth environment.
  • Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, evolving, entrepreneurial work environment.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office suite and HVAC Modeling software.
  • Broad knowledge of energy engineering and HVAC systems.
  • Ability to travel up to 10% of the time.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct site visits to identify and/or confirm potential electric and gas conservation measures.
  • Collect and evaluate project documentation such as utility bills, as-built drawings, and other pertinent project information.
  • Identify and estimate applicable energy efficiency incentives.
  • Analyze energy usage data.
  • Use effective writing and verbal skills to deliver high-quality reports and presentations.
  • Ability to calculate cost savings and return on investment (ROI) for energy-efficient improvements.
  • Ability to perform detailed energy savings calculations and spreadsheet analysis.
  • Review architectural, mechanical, or electrical plans and specifications to evaluate energy efficiency or determine economic, service, or engineering feasibility.
  • Inspect or monitor energy systems, including heating, ventilating, and air conditioning (HVAC) or daylighting systems to determine energy use or potential energy savings.
  • Provide consultation to clients or other engineers on topics such as climate control systems, energy modeling, data logging, energy management control systems, lighting or daylighting design, sustainable design, and energy auditing.
  • Working knowledge of energy modeling software, i.e., eQuest, DOE2, Carrier HAP, TRANE TRACE.
  • Required to meet project submission deadlines.
  • Coordinate meetings with energy contractors/consultants.
