About The Position

The Engine House Mechanic's primary purpose is to assist the Engine house Foreman in preparing locomotives for daily service, conduct periodic locomotive inspections, running repairs and maintenance to locomotives as required, trouble shoot locomotive systems, repair and test air brake valves, and other duties as directed.

Requirements

Minimum two (2) years experience as an engine house helper, or a combination of comparable industry experience.
Familiarity with principles of steam locomotive and steam locomotive systems operation.
Familiarity with railroad air brake systems.
Enthusiasm for the company and its mission.
Ability to carry out verbal or written instructions.
Proficient in the use of hand and power tools.
Ability to pass FRA required drug/alcohol screening and hearing and vision tests required for T&E operations employees.
Organizational skills and careful attention to detail.
Willingness to work at heights on ladders, scaffolds, man lifts or on top of rail mounted equipment.
Availability to work flexible hours, including evenings, nights, weekends, and holidays as required.
Willingness and desire to learn.

Responsibilities

Perform locomotive periodic inspections, complying with FRA regulations.
Repair and test locomotive and railcar brake valves.
Repair and test locomotive appliances.
Perform running repairs in accordance with FRA regulations and company policies.
Keep workplace clean and orderly.
Maintain cosmetic appearance of SRC's operational locomotives.
Comply with instructions provided by supervisor or designees.
Assist with preparing locomotives for fire-up and daily operation.
Fill locomotives with sand, water, and fuel as well as stocks locomotive cabs with needed supplies.
Operate machinery such as but not limited to forklifts, telehandlers, skid-steer loader, backhoe.
Remove and replace defective parts as required
Perform additional duties as required.
