About The Position

The Small Engine Mechanic is responsible for diagnosing, repairing, testing, and maintaining portable generators, inverter generators, and other small engine equipment. This role supports customer repair units, warranty evaluations, and reconditioned equipment to ensure safe and reliable operation.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • 1–3 years of experience in small engine repair, generator repair, powersports, outdoor power equipment, or related mechanical/electrical service work preferred.
  • Knowledge of gasoline and battery-powered engine systems.
  • Ability to diagnose mechanical problems and perform repairs efficiently.
  • Basic understanding of electrical systems, fuel systems, and mechanical components.
  • Ability to use hand tools, diagnostic tools, and power tools safely.
  • Ability to read parts diagrams, repair manuals, and wiring diagrams preferred.

Nice To Haves

Responsibilities

  • Diagnose mechanical issues on small engines and related equipment.
  • Repair and replace defective parts such as carburetors, spark plugs, fuel lines, filters, belts, and ignition systems.
  • Perform routine maintenance including oil changes, tune-ups, lubrication, and adjustments.
  • Assist with repair flow, parts staging, and movement of units through inspection, repair, testing, and completion stages.
  • Disassemble and reassemble engines and mechanical components.
  • Test equipment after repair to ensure proper operation and safety.
  • Maintain accurate service records and documentation of repairs performed.
  • Order or request replacement parts and supplies as needed.
  • Inspect equipment for safety issues and recommend necessary repairs.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment.
  • Follow company safety policies and applicable regulations.
  • Communicate repair status and equipment issues to supervisors or customers.
  • Diagnose and repair customer-returned generator units in accordance with company repair and warranty standards.
  • Diagnose AC/DC electrical issues including control panels, ignition systems, charging circuits, wiring harnesses, sensors, switches, and output-related concerns.
