About The Position

The Training Manager is responsible for managing and delivering training and professional development for Energy Program Staff and for coordinating the Regional Training Center in this mid-level, hands-on working management role. The Trainer may perform all tasks of all other Field jobs (Tech, Energy Audit, HVAC, QCI) for the installation of measures that save money, make homes more comfortable and help the environment. The Trainer focuses primarily on field training, coaching and mentoring to help ensure that all work is completed safely and efficiently to Colorado Energy Office (CEO) or Energy Outreach Colorado (EOC) or other program partners Standard Work Specification (SWS) or Standards.

Requirements

3-4 years’ experience as Energy Efficiency Tech, Crew Leader, HVAC Tech or related construction, maintenance, restoration, remodeling, or similar work is required.
1-2 years’ experience or training equivalent in Energy Auditing.
Maintain a valid driver’s license and acceptable motor vehicle driving record.
Successful background check.
Ability to provide direction, training, and feedback to crew members to maintain and improve performance and to achieve production goals and safety standards.
Communicate verbally and in writing in English.
Ability to understand quality standards, program guidance and directives, Standard Work Specifications (SWS) and advanced insulation, HVAC, building science, whole home performance, QCI and weatherization practices.
Credentials: Energy Auditor (BPI equivalent) or Building Analyst Professional (BA-P), and OSHA-30 or First Air/CPR.
High School Degree, GED or equivalent.
Experience with modeling software such as Weatherization Assistant 10.0 or Optimiser.
Can create, deliver, document, or coordinate field-based, classroom, or online learning.
Regularly uses advanced quality control, energy auditor, inspector, building science principles, energy conservation, weatherization, HVAC, and plumbing knowledge to evaluate work quality.
Coordinates with Program Supervisors, external funding administrators, and others.
Solves complex whole house system puzzles by demonstrating advanced critical thinking and problem-solving skills.
Maintains attention to detail to ensure that all installations meet safety and quality standards.
Able to understand complex information and explain it clearly to others.
Ability to work independently and as part of a team with a wide range of people from diverse experiences and different backgrounds.
Construction math skills, ability to follow directions, and proven mechanical aptitude.
Lifts 50 pounds without assistance, repeatedly lift and move 10-40 lbs.
Significant dexterity, flexibility, and comfort in small spaces.
Can crawl into and work in awkward and tight spaces including attics or crawlspaces with a 24” vertical clearance.
Stamina to work for extended periods of time standing or walking on rough, uneven ground, bending, crouching, and stooping.
Ability to work at height safely including on ladders or roofs up to 35 feet in height.

Nice To Haves

4-6 years weatherization, energy efficiency retrofit, construction, training, teaching, maintenance, mechanical, HVAC, insulation, building trades or similar experience.
College or technical or trade school degree, industry certifications or related military service.
Credentials: BPI Proctor for EA, BA-T, PA-P or similar, Quality Control Inspector (QCI) IREC Accredited (BPI equivalent).
Asbestos Building Inspector Initial Training, Lead RRP, CDPHE Asbestos Building Inspector.
Experience in a large regional training program and facility with multiple labs, regional training and stakeholder networks.
Bilingual in Spanish is valued and may be eligible for bilingual pay increase if fluent and utilized at work.

Responsibilities

Responsible for the training and professional development and improvement of all new and existing staff, including initial orientations up through advanced training and proctoring of installers, auditor/inspectors, and office staff and supervisors.
Provide field supervision to train installers in the installation and application of weatherization materials and treatments.
Provide field training to auditor/inspectors and auditor/inspector candidates/interns.
Provide classroom trainings to all levels of Energy Program staff.
Participate in / provide content for monthly staff & safety meetings.
Instructs on physical and analytical quality control inspections of work, diagnostic testing and analysis to inspect and evaluate final work.
Evaluates, prioritizes, workplans and schedules to provide internal and external training program.
Uses computer modeling software programs to calculate potential for energy savings and determine work needed.
Prepares audit reports.
Follows federal, state, and local program rules and requirements.
Uses and ensures crews use provided Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) when needed.
Trains on safe driving and safely drives vans, trucks, and box trucks in all types of weather on all types of roads.
Trains and supervises crew to ensure safe vehicle use and maintenance.
Legibly, accurately, and thoroughly completes all required job-related documents including forms; ensures job photographs document compliance with policy standards.
Identifies and fixes or reports risks to supervisor with recommend solutions.
Contacts specialty training or testing providers.
Manages scheduling, coordinating, registration and delivery of specialty training programs.
Protects the privacy of customers/families and maintains confidentiality.
Makes supply and equipment charges accurately.
Responsibly uses credit cards and store accounts.
Reports expenses on time and correctly.
