Headquartered in Atlanta, Georgia, Novelis has approximately 13,000 employees in 32 operating facilities on 4 continents. The Energy Team, located in Kennesaw, Ga is seeking an Energy Engineer Co-op. This co-op will be participating in energy assessments in the plants. They will need to summarize plant data from various sources and use this to design a roadmap for how the plants can save on energy. The engineer will be using specific software developed for this. The co-op starts May 2026 and ends December 2026. This co-op can be remote or located in Kennesaw, Georgia.

Requirements

  • Pursuing a Degree in Engineering or Related Field
  • Currently enrolled in a Bachelor's or Master's program in Mechanical, Industrial, Energy, or Environmental Engineering, or a closely related field
  • Familiarity with Energy Efficiency Concepts - Basic understanding of energy systems in industrial settings (e.g., compressed air, motors, HVAC, steam, process heating)
  • Able to learn DOE Tools (Verifi and Measur) -Exposure to or coursework involving the use of U.S. DOE tools like Verifi (for energy management systems) and Measur (for system assessments and savings calculations)
  • Strong Analytical and Data Skills
  • Proficiency in Excel and basic data analysis
  • Effective Communication and Documentation Skills

Nice To Haves

  • Hands-on Experience with Verifi and Measur Tools Prior use of DOE’s Verifi (Energy Management Information System) and Measur (system assessment tool) in academic or industrial projects.
  • Knowledge of ISO 50001 or Energy Management Systems (EnMS) Familiarity with energy management frameworks, especially ISO 50001, and how they relate to continuous improvement and DOE programs.
  • Experience with Industrial Energy Assessments Participation in energy audits, assessments, or projects involving systems like motors, pumps, fans, or compressed air.
  • Programming or Scripting Skills Basic proficiency in Python, R, or MATLAB for data analysis, automation, or custom tool development.
  • Strong Presentation and Stakeholder Engagement Skills Ability to present findings to technical and non-technical audiences, and engage with plant personnel, DOE representatives, or internal leadership.

Responsibilities

  • Application of US Department of Energy provided guidance and technology for energy efficiency assessments
  • Provide reports of the energy efficiency projects implemented
  • Maintain up to date list of projects
  • Analyze energy data, calculate savings, and support reporting requirements
  • document findings, prepare reports, and communicate with cross-functional teams and external stakeholders (e.g., DOE representatives).
