About The Position

The Electronic Medical Record Specialist is primarily responsible for the ongoing build, update/upgrade implementation, maintenance, and optimization of organization’s EMR application, AthenaHealth. This position may at times be responsible for recommending and redesigning workflows in accordance with best practices and ideally has a clinical background and experience. In addition, and to the extent assigned, responsible for training environment build and/or maintenance, training material development, end-user training and/or any other work necessary to support the effective training of others in the application.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office applications, including PowerPoint and Excel
  • Strong understanding of clinical systems and workflows within a hospital or clinic

Nice To Haves

  • Bachelor’s degree preferred.
  • Clinical background, such as MA, LPN, or RN preferred.
  • Project+, CAPM, or PMP certification preferred.
  • Project management experience preferred
  • Experience working with AthenaHealth EMR preferred

Responsibilities

  • Build optimize and maintain designated applications in test, training and production environments (all applications)
  • Organize and prioritize application build activities in collaboration with I.S. department leadership and department leadership throughout the organization
  • Assist with ensuring participation of the appropriate clinical and non-clinical stakeholders in build activities
  • Proactively maintain competency and continue learning opportunities in application(s) correlated to role
  • Attend training and successfully complete related projects and tests in order to obtain and maintain applicable certification(s) and/or skills
  • Provide meaningful input and translate optimal future-state workflows into system design
  • Follows standards for naming and numbering conventions and security classifications
  • Test builds in a structured manner and document results; prepared to accurately represent findings during change control processes
  • Serve as application support and subject matter expert and provide resolution to issues
  • Document and accurately report status and progress of assigned deliverables to I.S. leadership and to others as may be directed
  • Complete work as assigned within timeline expectations and with a high level of work product quality
  • Remain focused on improving patient safety, quality measures, efficient delivery of care, system security, patient privacy and other areas of compliance
  • Understand application and overall EMR system capabilities and/or limitations in order to best leverage available functionality
  • Effectively and appropriately present and communicate information/ideas/concepts to individuals and groups in both verbal and visual manner
  • Troubleshoot, research and analyze issues and provide practical and meaningful suggestions for issue resolution
  • Stay abreast of changing technology, protocols, standards, and guidelines which may impact application build and/or training materials and facilitates changes needed to comply with standards
  • Participate in workflow design and system build of education modules and training materials.
  • Produce high quality training system build and develops classroom plans and materials which maximize learning opportunities for end-users.
  • Effectively present and conduct training for end-user groups ranging in all levels of skill; Creatively finds efficient and effective methods of disseminating training/educational materials to applicable end-users
  • Strictly follow all change control procedures
  • Willing and able to travel to offsite locations to perform job responsibilities
  • Participate in organizing meetings, training, testing administration, end user assessments, and logistics as needed
  • Comply with all organizational and departmental policies, procedures, and guidelines.
