About the Department: The Human Resources Employee Relations Unit supports a fair, productive, and respectful work environment by providing guidance and services to employees, managers, and supervisors. The team administers employee relations programs and policies related to performance management, discipline, grievances, unemployment insurance, ADA accommodations, and the prevention of harassment, discrimination, retaliation, and workplace violence. Employee Relations also offers counseling to employees with workplace concerns and consultative support to managers on performance expectations, documentation, feedback, and disciplinary communications. About the role: This position serves as a key Employee Relations and ADA Consultant, supporting day-to-day operations while ensuring compliance, consistency, and a supportive process. Approximately 50% of the role is dedicated to managing ADA accommodation requests for staff, non-faculty, and faculty employees through the interactive process. The remaining 50% focuses on core employee relations responsibilities, including advising managers on performance and disciplinary matters up to and including termination, supporting or conducting investigations and grievance processes, facilitating conflict resolution, and identifying opportunities to strengthen employee relations practices and workplace culture. The role also provides back-up support to the Employee Relations team’s primary ER Consultants and lead ADA Consultant. Additional responsibilities include managing cases through the Salesforce Case Management and Ticketing system, assigning cases received through ER and ADA inboxes, preparing investigation summaries and reports, responding to inquiries, performing administrative tasks, and generating reports to support team operations and data-driven decision-making.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in human resources, business, psychology, organizational development, or related field.
  • At least two years of progressively responsible experience analyzing, interpreting, applying, communicating, and promoting HR best practices in support of organizational goals and objectives.
  • Demonstrate ability to communicate effectively, both in writing and verbally, with diverse audiences, or an equivalent combination of relevant education, training, and experience.

Nice To Haves

  • Four or more years of direct employee relations experience handling disciplinary matters, conducting investigations, and mediating workplace conflicts between employee-to-employee or employee-to-supervisor/manager.
  • Four or more years of direct experience managing workplace ADA accommodations, including handling employee requests from intake through closure; engaging in the interactive process with analysis of essential job functions; making and communicating decisions on accommodation approvals and denials; facilitating conflict resolution between employees and supervisors/managers regarding the ADA process, decisions, and roles; and educating stakeholders throughout the process.
  • Experience documenting case activities and managing cases in a case management system (e.g., Salesforce, ServiceNow, Remedy, or SAP).
  • Demonstrated ability to manage an average caseload of approximately 15 cases (employee relations and/or ADA) simultaneously.
  • Bilingual in Spanish and English; ability to communicate fluently in both languages is a plus to enhance employee support and engagement.

Responsibilities

  • Employee Relations Consultation Serve as a consultant to department leaders and employees on SHRA and EHRA Non-Faculty employee relations matters, providing guidance aligned with University, Board of Governors, and Office of State Human Resources policies. Apply appropriate frameworks based on employee classification to resolve performance, conduct, and workplace concerns.
  • Investigations Independently manage complex and sensitive employee relations investigations, including Title IX-related allegations involving staff, faculty, and students.
  • SHRA and EHRA Non-Faculty Employee Relations Advise supervisors and employees on employee relations issues, performance management, and disciplinary actions up to and including dismissal, discontinuation of employment, or termination, ensuring compliance with applicable policies.
  • ADA Accommodation Management and Compliance Manage the intake, evaluation, and interactive process for ADA accommodation requests for employees, applicants, and student employees. Review medical documentation, determine eligibility, recommend reasonable accommodations, and coordinate with HR, Legal Affairs, and managers on accommodations, medical restrictions, and leave-related matters. Document interactions, assess accommodation effectiveness, maintain confidentiality, and prepare compliance and program reports. Serve as a subject matter expert on ADA, ADAAA, Rehabilitation Act, Pregnant Workers’ Fairness Act, and related laws, including responding to disability-related complaints and supporting training, policy interpretation, and organization-wide compliance efforts.
  • Employee Relations Reporting and Case Management Support the Employee Relations Director with annual reporting for SHRA and EHRA Non-Faculty activities. Maintain ER case trackers, manage cases through Salesforce, and prepare recurring and ad hoc reports to support team operations and data-informed decision-making.
  • Communication, Documentation, and Policy Application Provide clear verbal and written guidance on employee relations matters, interpret and apply policies, prepare disciplinary and separation communications, document meetings and proceedings, and draft reports and procedures. Assist with policy review and revisions, and maintain current knowledge of federal, state, BOG, and OSHR regulations.
  • Emergency Loan Fund Administration Oversee administration of the Emergency Loan Fund program, serving as the primary point of contact for employee inquiries. Review applications for eligibility, coordinate processing with Budget and Payroll, maintain reconciliation records, and prepare related reports.
  • Unemployment Administration Respond to requests from the University’s third-party unemployment vendor, participate in hearings as needed, advise department leaders on hearing preparation, and ensure accurate and timely submission of unemployment reports.
