About The Position

This position is responsible for assisting with air quality, emission modeling utilizing various tools including the Illinois Statewide Travel Demand Model (ILSTDM) to serve internal and external customers. This position assists in integrating the use of air quality and emission models into the Bureau of Planning's regular project planning and development processes.Essential Functions

Requirements

  • Completion of a bachelor’s degree majoring in urban planning, environmental science, statistics, or geographic information systems; OR completion of two years of college PLUS two years of experience working with environmental science projects, travel demand modeling, transportation planning, mapping, data collection, or a combination thereof; OR six years of experience working with environmental science projects, travel demand modeling, transportation planning, mapping, data collection, or a combination thereof.
  • Requires a valid driver’s license.
  • Requires occasional statewide and out-of-state travel with overnight stays.
  • Requires successful completion of a background screening.

Nice To Haves

  • Working knowledge of emission modeling.
  • Understanding transportation planning fundamentals.
  • Expertise in various transportation modeling software such as TransCAD and/or MOVES.
  • Proficiency in the use of the Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Effective oral and written communication skills.

Responsibilities

  • Assists in developing emission scenarios using the Illinois Statewide Travel Demand Model (ILSTDM) or similar data sources/tools to perform forecasts.
  • Reviews the process and work completed by consultants for emission analysis.
  • Assists in maintaining a manual for emission modeling processes with documentation detailing its creation and evolvement.
  • Keeps abreast with relevant training on latest technology for emission study software and data sources.
  • Assists with the coordination and procurement process of software, hardware, and data sources to maintain and enhance the emission modeling processes.Performs duties in compliance with departmental safety rules.
  • Performs all duties in a manner conducive to the fair and equitable treatment of all employees.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
