The Emergency Services Tech supports the Emergency Room patients and staff in the delivery of emergency care. Experience: None Education: High School Diploma or Equivalent and Specialized Training Training: Must meet one of the following criteria: 1.) Nurse Aide Certification or, 2.) One year experience in emergency medicine environment or, 3.) Certified Medical Assistant or 4.) Louisiana state EMT license or #5 A Junior or Senior in an accredited nursing program. Licensure: BLS Certification Patient Care Standards Performs 12 lead ECG and places patients on continuous cardiac monitoring. Correctly places monitoring electrodes and records EKG. Correctly applies orthopedic splinting devices to assist in treatment of orthopedic injuries. Performs patient phlebotomy following department and facility policies and procedures. Successfully obtains phlebotomy specimens with minimal discomfort to the patient. Provides wound care according to department clinical practice standards and acts as a resource to physicians and nurses to provide patients with optimum care. Using aseptic technique, is able to provide wound care to include initial cleansing, irrigation, and subsequent dressing as ordered by the physician. Service Standards Maintains inventory of equipment and supplies to optimize delivery of patient care and treatment. Using approved inventory checklists, maintain emergency room readiness of assigned areas. Using appropriate personal protective equipemnt (PPE), responds to hazardous materials events in the Emergency Room Triage process to render immediate treatment as directed by the team leader. Dons assigned PPE within specified period of time, responds to assigned area and supports the decontamination process of emergency patients. Greets arriving emergency room patients in the lobby and canopy, offers ambulatory and wheelchair assistance, and supports the triage nurse in the inital assessement of the emergency room patient. Maintains coverage of the emergency room lobby and entrance areas to support the arrival and departure of patients. Observes arriving patients for signs of distress, immediately notifying the triage nurse, and assists the triage nurse in the reception of the patient.
