About The Position

The Emergency Department Nurse Manager has 24 hour accountability for the daily operations in the nursing unit, serving as a role model and leader.  The Emergency Department Nurse Manager oversees and coordinates the emergency care provided by the department and assists the Emergency Department Director with staff development, oversees competencies, assists with quality and risk programs and promotes Jennie Stuart Health goals, philosophies, policies and procedures.

Responsibilities

  • Directs and coordinates emergency care provided within the department.
  • Directs department functions.
  • Assists Director with coordination and completion of employee orientation process.
  • Maintains equipment.
  • Implements and maintains infection control measures.
  • Monitors employee productivity.
  • Oversees working scheduling.
  • Assists with quality improvement efforts.
  • Complies with hospital, State, Federal and JCAHO regulations.
  • Sets role model for others.
  • Promotes team effort throughout department.
  • Follow through effectively.
  • Understands priorities and reacts in a timely manner.
  • Procures and distributes medication from secure locations per work assignment according to established policies, procedures, and protocols.
  • Maintains credential appropriate for the Emergency Department (ACLS, BLS & PALS).
  • Communicates effectively with peers, staff, leadership and providers.
  • Works well in helping define work goals.
  • Presents as mentor.
  • Shows effective counseling skills ∙ Seeks assistant when needed to make decisions
  • Communicates responsibility for actions.

  • Must promote good public relations for the department and Jennie Stuart Health while maintaining patient/customer confidentiality.
  • Participates in self-evaluation and develops a professional plan for development based on unit goals/strategic plans.
  • Attends staff meetings, providing input and evaluation into unit strategic plans, operations and performances improvement.
  • Arranges own knowledge base and development by attending formal and informal educational activities and shares knowledge with others.
