About The Position

Martin County Hospital District (MCHD), organized in 1967 and located in West Texas, operates a state-of-the-art 18-bed Critical Access Hospital opened in 2012. The Emergency Department Director will collaborate with ED nursing leadership, emergency physicians, and hospital administration to ensure high-quality emergency care that meets the evolving needs of patients, the department, the hospital, and the community. This role involves developing, maintaining, updating, and implementing departmental policies, procedures, and protocols, as well as ensuring provider compliance. Key responsibilities include coordinating ER staffing and scheduling, auditing charts, providing feedback for performance improvements, and monitoring patient experience and flow. The Director will design and implement process improvement strategies, monitor ED-related regulatory issues, ensure ongoing regulatory compliance, and educate staff on these requirements. Participation in accreditation and certification surveys, investigation and response to patient complaints, and involvement in medical staff, quality assurance, and patient safety/risk management committees are also crucial. The position is responsible for coordinating and maintaining Level IV trauma designation according to DSHS standards and actively participating in the Emergency Preparedness Plan. Requirements

  • Graduate of a School of Professional Nursing.
  • Bachelor's degree in nursing.
  • Must have a license to practice professional nursing by the Texas Board of Nursing or licensure from a state within the Nursing Compact.
  • Successful completion of AHA approved courses in BLS upon hire.
  • ACLS certification required.
  • PALS or ENPC certification required.
  • TNCC required.

Nice To Haves

  • ACLS certification preferably within three months of hire.
  • PALS or ENPC certification preferably within three months of hire.
  • TNCC preferably within eighteen months of hire.
  • One (1) year experience as a Professional Registered Nurse in a hospital environment preferred.
  • Prior ER experience preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with ED nursing leadership, emergency physicians and hospital administration to ensure the ED care delivery model achieves high quality emergency care and evolves to match the needs of the patients, the department, the hospital, and the community.
  • Develop, maintain, update, and implement departmental policies, procedures, and protocols.
  • Ensure providers are aware of and compliant with departmental, hospital, and medical staff policies.
  • Coordinate staffing and scheduling of ER staffing.
  • Perform auditing on required focused charts and provide feedback to staff in regard to specific charting recommendations with Performance improvements as needed.
  • Monitor patient experience and patient flow.
  • Design and implement process improvement strategies to improve and optimize these areas.
  • Monitor ED-related regulatory issues and ensure ongoing regulatory compliance.
  • Educate staff on regulatory issues and requirements.
  • Prepare for and participate in accreditation and certification surveys involving the ED.
  • Investigate and respond to patient complaints or grievances related to patient care.
  • Participate in medical staff committee, Quality assurance committee, patient safety/ Risk management committee.
  • Responsible for coordinating and maintaining Level IV trauma designation by adhering to DSHS standards.
  • Actively participates with the Emergency Preparedness Plan.
