About The Position

As part of our continued evolution and dedication to public safety, the newly formed Emergency Management & Communications (EM&C) Department is seeking an experienced and visionary Emergency Communication Center Supervisor to lead one of three specialized focus areas—Operations, Professional Development, or Crisis and Alternative Response —within our Emergency Communications Division. Requirements

  • High school diploma or high school equivalency certificate (GED)
  • Four (4) years of responsible public safety emergency response and dispatch experience, including one (1) year of administrative and/or lead supervisory experience
  • Must possess a current Texas Commission on Law Enforcement (TCOLE) Advanced or above Telecommunicator Proficiency Certification at time of job offer
  • Must pass a Drug Screen, Polygraph Exam and must pass a Criminal Justice Information Systems (CJIS) fingerprint-based background check
  • Must meet CJIS requirements – see further

Nice To Haves

  • Currently employed and working within an Emergency Communications Center (ECC)
  • Two (2) years of ECC-centric experience, creating and maintaining training curriculum and programs for the development, continuing education, and statutory compliance of TCOLE licensed Telecommunicators
  • Texas Commission on Law Enforcement (TCOLE) Telecommunicator License
  • Texas Commission on Law Enforcement (TCOLE) Advanced (or higher) Telecommunicator Proficiency Certificate
  • Communications Training Officer (CTO) Certificate
  • Must possess or have the ability to obtain a TCOLE Instructor Certification within one (1) year from the time of job offer

Responsibilities

  • Train, motivate, and evaluate public safety emergency response personnel; provide or coordinate employee training; work with subordinate employees to correct deficiencies; implement discipline procedures when necessary
  • Direct, coordinate, and review the work plan for public safety communication and dispatch services and activities on an assigned shift; assign work activities and projects; monitor workflow; review and evaluate work products, methods, and procedures; meet with employees to identify and resolve problems
  • Participate in the development and implementation of goals, objectives, policies, and priorities; recommend and implement resulting policies and procedures
  • Monitor the operation of various emergency response, recording, and dispatching equipment; determine and schedule needed maintenance and repair
  • Gather, compile, record, and report all data relating to public safety emergency response and dispatching activities
