POSITION OVERVIEW The Behavior Support Paraeducator serves as a vital member of the educational team, providing targeted behavioral interventions and academic support to students with diverse learning and emotional needs. The primary goal of this role is to implement support plans that foster student self-regulation, safety, and academic engagement within an inclusive or specialized environment.

Requirements

  • Education: High School Diploma or GED required. Associate’s degree or 48+ college credits (or passing score on the ParaPro Assessment) preferred.
  • Certification: CPI (Crisis Prevention Institute) Training is preferred. If not currently certified, the organization will provide the necessary training and certification upon hire.
  • Physical Requirements: Must be able to remain active for extended periods, move quickly in response to student needs, and occasionally lift or position students as outlined in safety protocols.
  • Soft Skills: Exceptional patience, emotional resilience, and the ability to maintain a calm, professional demeanor in high-pressure situations.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience working with students with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), ADHD, or Emotional/Behavioral Disabilities.
  • Familiarity with Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports (PBIS).
  • Basic understanding of Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) principles.
  • Strong collaborative skills for working with teachers, parents, and school psychologists.

Responsibilities

  • Plan Implementation: Faithfully execute Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) and Behavior Intervention Plans (BIPs).
  • De-escalation: Identify behavioral triggers and utilize approved techniques to support students during moments of crisis or high stress.
  • Data Collection: Maintain accurate daily logs of student behavior and progress to assist the multi-disciplinary team in data-driven decision-making.
  • Skill Building: Model and coach students in social-emotional skills, including conflict resolution, emotional regulation, and social cues.
  • Classroom Support: Assist the lead teacher in managing transitions, keeping students on task, and adapting materials to meet specific behavioral needs.
