About The Position

In the Electromagnetic (EM) Design Engineer role, you will serve as the technical lead for Kollmorgen motor products and product lines, driving electromagnetic design and supporting new product development, prototype builds, and testing. You will collaborate with Sales, Customer Service, and Operations teams to ensure designs meet performance, cost, and manufacturability requirements. Success in this role means consistently meeting or exceeding Voice of Customer expectations while advancing product quality and innovation.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering or electrical engineering from an accredited institution.
  • Strong analytical skills and ability to troubleshoot complex technical issues.
  • Proficiency in written and oral communication for internal and external stakeholders.
  • Ability and willingness to perform hands-on lab work and work directly with customers.

Nice To Haves

  • Master’s degree in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering.
  • Experience with electromagnetic FEA and magnetic modeling tools.
  • 1+ year of experience with rotating machinery, preferably electric motors.
  • Familiarity with feedback devices such as Hall sensors, encoders, and resolvers.

Responsibilities

  • Lead electromagnetic design for electric motors, including brushless servomotors and related product lines.
  • Perform electromagnetic and thermal analysis using FEA tools such as Ansys Motor-CAD and Simcenter Magnet Suite.
  • Translate incomplete customer requirements into clear technical specifications.
  • Prepare product cost estimates, proposals, and documentation for new jobs.
  • Own design accuracy and documentation, including creation and coordination of Engineering Change Orders (ECO).
  • Support manufacturing sites with design engineering expertise and drive improvements in quality and design for manufacturability.
  • Participate in Value Engineering initiatives to generate and execute cost-saving ideas.
  • Conduct hands-on motor testing in the Motor Lab and prototype development in the Prototype Lab; prepare test summaries and reports.
  • Collaborate with Sales and customers to ensure designs meet performance and cost expectations.
  • Provide technical leadership for product lines and new development projects.
  • Occasionally travel (less than 10%) for customer or project support (nationally and/or internationally).
