About The Position

Solid Power is seeking a Electrolyte R&D Intern​ to join our talented team of engineers and scientists working to revolutionize the battery industry through the development of next generation, all solid‐state rechargeable batteries. Solid Power is a dynamic, fast‐paced, collaborative, and innovative team environment. The preferred candidate is currently enrolled in undergraduate or graduate studies focused on materials, chemistry, engineering or related field. The Electrolyte R&D team specializes in research and development of solid-state electrolytes, including development of new materials, and improvements and modifications of production materials. This role will work alongside scientists to develop skills in solid-state electrolyte synthesis and characterization.

Requirements

  • Currently pursuing a Materials Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Chemistry, or related degree from an accredited college/university.
  • Experience in an academic or industrial lab environment
  • Comfort with safe handling of hazardous materials and equipment is required.
  • Availability to work 15-20 hours during the Spring and Summer semesters.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in material characterization techniques is a plus (XRD, EIS, FTIR, DSC/TGA, Raman, SEM/EDS)
  • Experience in synthetic chemistry is a plus.
  • Experience with statistical and relevant software (design of experiments (D.O.E.) a plus).
  • Knowledge of Li-ion battery materials optimization and synthesis is preferred
  • Familiarity with Microsoft Office suite.

Responsibilities

  • Work closely with and under the direction of scientists to execute planned experimentation aimed at modifications and improvements to solid-state electrolytes.
  • Assist scientists in material synthesis, characterization, data acquisition and analysis.
  • Communicate results and roadblocks to the broader team.
  • Perform regular and required housekeeping such as lab and glassware cleaning.
  • Always follow all facility and laboratory safety rules and regulations, ensuring safe handling and proper disposal of hazardous materials and equipment.
