About The Position

The Electrician, Ferndale Refinery is responsible for maintaining, testing, troubleshooting, and installing electrical power systems up to 13.8kv. This work involves the use of hand and power tools and necessary diagnostic equipment. This position requires the successful completion of an online assessment. Requirements

  • Legally authorized to work in the United States without restrictions
  • High school diploma or GED
  • Valid driver's license
  • Willing and able to obtain a Transportation Worker Identification Card (TWIC). Information can be found at https://www.tsa.gov/for-industry/twic
  • Journey-level Electrician with a current EL01 card
  • 2 or more years of experience as a Journey-level Industrial Electrician
  • Experience with the following:
  • 3-phase wiring and motor troubleshooting
  • Electrical fittings, cable tray systems, and seal systems
  • Basic shop mathematics and material dimensions including pipe sizes and schedules, alloy material awareness and use
  • National Electrical Code
  • Creating sketches and interpreting P&IDs and single line drawings
  • Using Microsoft Office applications
  • Willing and able to perform/comply with the following, with or without reasonable accommodation:
  • Work extended hours, which may include evenings, weekends and holidays
  • Be on call and respond to refinery emergencies during off-hours
  • Work safely near large, hot, high-speed machines
  • Climb structures up to 250 feet in height using stairs and ladders.
  • Lifting, pushing, and pulling articles up to 60 pounds and grasping up to 100 pounds of grip force
  • Work around toxic chemicals, including acids and bases
  • Work around hydrocarbons under high pressure and heat
  • Work in enclosed spaces such as tanks and silos
  • Work outside in harsh weather conditions
  • Wear fire retardant clothing and personal protective equipment (such as steel-toe shoes, ear and eye protection)
  • Wear a protective arc flash suit, along with other electrical safety equipment, as required
  • Maintain your face daily so that a respirator/face mask can seal properly (some examples include being free of facial hair and/or clean shaven)

Nice To Haves

  • 5 or more years of direct experience working in an industrial plant maintenance role including a refinery and/or chemical industry
  • Experience with SAP’s Maintenance Module or other ERP Maintenance modules
  • Working knowledge of Electrical Safe Work Practices (NFPA 70E)
  • Experience with electrical distribution switchgear protective relay systems maintenance and testing
  • Experience with hand signals for lifting

Responsibilities

  • Follow all refinery safe practices and procedures
  • Communicate all safety concerns and incidents to supervisor immediately
  • Communicate work status, findings, and improvement opportunities to supervision
  • Obtain appropriate work permits and perform a Job Safety Analysis (JSA) prior to starting work
  • Understand the refinery's electrical infrastructure and general electrical principles to work efficiently and effectively
  • Troubleshoot, repair, and perform other maintenance tasks on electrical equipment including electric motors, protective relays, starter controls, VFDs, wiring systems, overhead lines, heat tracing systems, uninterruptable power supplies, batteries, generators, lighting fixtures, cord sets, grounding, etc
  • Install conduit and pulling wire as required
  • Configure, install, and commission new electrical equipment
  • Research and retrieve equipment information using the internet, plant equipment files, and communication with vendors
  • Read and interpret loop drawings, P&IDs, wiring schematics, single line diagrams, etc
  • Use computers and software applications to enter and retrieve data
  • Determine appropriate tools and levels of PPE required for work based on arc flash potential and electrical safety considerations
  • Operate all available mobile equipment including aerial lifts, scissor lifts, and bucket trucks, fork lifts
  • Effectively use test equipment including multi-meters, insulation testers (meggers), battery testers, and signal generators
  • Perform work activities that include pulling, lifting, twisting, working in confined spaces, and on elevated platforms requiring fall protection
  • Provide proper housekeeping of work areas, vehicles, and tools
  • Perform any other tasks as assigned by management to the level of training of the individual
