About The Position

The NC Department of Adult Correction is one of the largest state agencies with more than 14,000 employees. It is responsible for safeguarding and preserving lives and property through prevention, protection, and preparation as well as the care, custody, and supervision of all adults sentenced for violating North Carolina laws. This department includes state prisons with custody, healthcare, and facility operations staff as well as probation/parole officers who supervised sentenced people in the community. Other divisions include Administration, Health Services, Rehabilitation & Reentry, Special Operations and the Post-Release Supervision & Parole Commission. We have a mission that matters! Salary Range: $39,671 - $69,426 Foothills Correctional Institution is located in Morganton NC Burke County and is a close custody male facility. This is journeyman level work in the construction, installation, maintenance, and repair of electrical systems, equipment, and fixtures. Work assignments are received from a foreman or other supervisor and are performed independently and in accordance with accepted trade practices. New or unusual work orders are usually accompanied by sketches or blueprints. Work is reviewed through inspection of completed work for quality and compliance with work orders and is further evaluated on the basis of the continued workability of equipment, systems, and fixtures repaired or installed. Applicants must pass a background check to be eligible for this job. This is a full-time position (40 hours per week) with State Benefits. Note to Current State Employees: The salary grade for this position is NC09. State employees are encouraged to apply for positions of interest even if the salary grade is the same as, or lower than, their current position. If selected for this position, a new salary will be recalculated taking into consideration the quantity of relevant education and experience, funding availability, and internal equity. Requirements

  • Considerable knowledge of the standard practices and methods of the electrical trade.
  • Documented knowledge in the use and care of tools of the trade.
  • Documented knowledge to read and work from blueprints and sketches.
  • Applicants must pass a background check to be eligible for this job.
  • High school or General Educational Development (GED) diploma and two years of experience in the construction or repair of secondary electrical systems; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Based on the nature of work performed, may require appropriate licensure by the governing board or commission.
