About The Position

Foothills Correctional Institution is located in Morganton NC Burke County and is a close custody male facility. THIS IS A REPOST...PREVIOUS APPLICANTS WILL NEED TO REAPPLY TO BE CONSIDERED This is journeyman level work in the construction, installation, maintenance, and repair of electrical systems, equipment, and fixtures. Work assignments are received from a foreman or other supervisor and are performed independently and in accordance with accepted trade practices. New or unusual work orders are usually accompanied by sketches or blueprints. Work is reviewed through inspection of completed work for quality and compliance with work orders and is further evaluated on the basis of the continued workability of equipment, systems, and fixtures repaired or installed.

Requirements

High school or General Educational Development (GED) diploma and two years of experience in the construction or repair of secondary electrical systems; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Based on the nature of work performed, may require appropriate licensure by the governing board or commission.

Considerable knowledge of the standard practices and methods of the electrical trade.
Documented knowledge in the use and care of tools of the trade.
Documented knowledge to read and work from blueprints and sketches.

Responsibilities

Installing circuit breakers, transformers, lighting, and power distribution systems.
Testing electrical systems with tools like voltmeters and ohmmeters to identify and fix malfunctions.
Adhering to OSHA guidelines and local building codes to ensure a safe work environment.
Mentoring and directing apprentices or helpers during installation tasks.
Replacing old wiring, devices, and electrical components.
Reporting on project progress, material usage, and inspection results.
